Default Ignatieff says Quebec niqab rule is 'good balance'

The article is three days old, but I thought it was pretty surprising, and also quite nice to see.

http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/201...bec-niqab.html

The reason I didn't vote Liberal in the last election is because I feared they were becoming like the UK Labour party with regard to some of the issues that immigration brings with it. Ignore-it-and-it'll-get-better attitude.

I really see no reason whatsover to question not only this action, but a complete ban of the niqab and burka. It's not even an Islamic practice. There are two reasons for someone to wear the niqab: cultural pressure from a misogynist, dark-ages family, or because they REALLY love their local culture. In which case why move here? I don't even think it would have such a huge effect on Muslims in Canada in general. Do you see many women in niqabs in Calgary? I don't.

If you mean on this forum, I think this thread will be ignored more than anything. And I really doubt that most people here would disagree with him. I think most posters here are willing to look past their anti-Liberal attitude when discussing specific ideas and policies.

Why is this news. Both relevant Federal parties support it and so they should. Much like the Hutterite drivers license issue. Its the same thing.

Exactly. Don't we have this thing called the Charter of Rights and Freedoms?

The only thing that surprises me about the whole burka/niqab thing is that robbers haven't clued into it being the ultimate work uniform for heists. Then again, the majority of the criminal element probably aren't exactly Mensa candidates. Pretty ideal get-up for suicide bombers too I suppose.

That brings up an OT question. Apparently there's been an emergence of some burka wearing suicide bomber women over in the Middle East recently. So following their dogma, they should get 72 young virgin women as their reward in paradise. Would that mean they're lesbians?
