It's not 2012 yet. Were they trying to pre-empt the end of the world or something?

The sword is soooooooo 2300 BC.
If you're going to use a sword, then use a sword. If you're going to follow some religious scripture, then follow it. Kinda lame to just interpret an old book to make it fit your perception of what you think it is/should be today.

Hopefully CNN/Fox doesn't use this to smear all militia groups in the U.S. as violent extremists.....

Some of that Oilers koolaid must have made its way down. There should be restrictions on that stuff.

Ahahahaha! Anyone who believes in a government conspiracy and stockpiles weapons and supplies for a protracted war with that government or to deal with its subsequent collapse is a nutcase.

Just sayin'...
Also, I suppose Obama is the antichrist.

Militia groups are legal and are protected by the second amendment....and for good reason. It's not all about conspiracy.....
Legit militia groups have tried to separate themselves from the Hutaree, because of their violent message....apparently the Hutaree have posted youtube videos advocating violence and such.

Lisa: The second amendment is just a remnant from revolutionary periods, it has no real meaning today
Homer: You couldn't be more wrong Lisa. If I didn't have this gun the King of England could just come in here and start pushing you around. Do you want that, well do ya?

I know someone who did actually strongly believe that there was a large conspiracy going on in the world, that half a dozen people are pulling the strings behind the scenes of every major government in the world, and that we had to go out into the wilderness and arm ourselves to be ready for an epic war...he ended up spending some time in a psych ward. Name a conspiracy theory and he believed it. I'm glad he got some help, but it's pretty easy to go off the deep end, and if no one is there to help you things like this can happen.

It's really not as uncommon as you might think. In this case, he was diagnosed as Bi-polar, which runs in his family, and now he takes medication for it and has returned to being completely normal. The ups were great, but the downs resulted in heightened paranoia, which led to hospitalization.

Often enough people who distrust the government do go a bit overboard with the conspiracies.
A common distrust of the government should always be in place though. Maybe we won't vote like fools then.

All Militia groups have been labeled as extremists by the media and government already.
You can look up youtube videos about them done by the media.
I really don't have a problem with Militia groups. Infact, I support them. It should be the right of a free citizen to join one if they wish, unfortunately, I believe they are "illegal" in Canada. By illegal, I mean there is no constitutional bearing for one, and you can't buy a firearm to "join a militia". I don't think that would go over well.

Serious question - what's the point of being in a militia group and arming yourself if you don't think that you might use those weapons against or in defiance of the government someday? This isn't the 19th century where militia companies were regularly incorporated into the armed forces of a nation when it went to war.
Such groups are labeled as extremists because that is what they are - throwbacks to a time when the rule of law was weak and men followed authority figures who promised local order enforced by gangs of armed men.

What's the over under on the "Hutaree" guys watching Nascar as religiously as they practice guerrilla warfare?

Militia's are meant to be in place to take action if the government abuses its power and harms its' own citizens.....the 2nd amendment is centered around this idea...
WW2 Germany could have used a militia.....
There are militia's in most states and most of them quietly go about their business doing no harm to others. I think most militia members are ex-military types who just get together to shoot some rounds and stay sharp.
Again...it's too bad they will all be smeared by CNN/Fox as violent extremists....when they are just exercising their rights and not harming anyone...
The Hutaree are known amongst the other militia groups as "extremist" and consider themselves separate from them...

Yeah, so like I said, their purpose is to use violence against the government in defiance of law. It's a "solution" to government tyranny by enabling all kinds of petty tyrants - for example, the leader of these Hutarees.

Both the German Communists and the Nazis HAD militias, and the Nazis used their Brownshirts to help them get into power. Which is an argument *against* militias, not for them as you seem to think.
