Anybody know where I can get free tickets to the PGA Calgary Golf Show?
Its happening this weekend at the Round Up Center. http://www.pgaofalberta.com/site/calgary_consumer_show
You can buy tickets on-line in advance for $11.50 ea or at the door for $16.50
But to tell the truth, I'm cheap when it comes to stuff like this. I hate paying to go to a place where a bunch of people are trying to sell you something.... whether it be a golf vacation, a golf membership, or golf clubs and other equipment.
I'd like to go but I just don't want to pay to get in the door.
Anybody know where I can get a couple of free tickets?

Here's what you do - get the 2 for 1 coupon from the Fan Club (FAN 960), then when one guy approaches to buy a ticket, you sneak up behind him and say you're with him, present the coupon, and voila - you're in for free.

At least you are honest. I'm curious how much are you willing to spend for a round of golf?

I bet he hides in the bushes and then mozies on in on the 2nd hole with a 3some and joins up as a 4th.
"Sorry guys, I didn't hear the clubhouse call my name!"

To tell you the truth, I'm quite happy paying $45 to play 18 holes at the City of Calgary golf course Maple Ridge.
... anyways... whats that got to do with my not wanting to pay $11 to get into the golf show which consists of mostly booths set up by golf courses and/or golf resorts who are trying to sell you something?
Now.... if they had some interesting entertainment there.... that would be a different story.

It's all in good fun - I too wanted to score free tickets to the Auto show that was on at the Roundup a few weeks ago - But that was because I had a few different friends who wanted me to take them to advise them on which car to buy, so I ended up paying the $12-16 or whatever it is 3 times...
SAD PANDA.
As for free tix, I think the best you can do, assuming you're taking the Mrs. or a buddy, is the 2 for 1 admission coupon that was mentioned earlier, at least it's half price then.

I just find it funny that a golfer will pay $45 to play a round of golf but doesn't want to pay $11 to get into a golf show, especially one where you could potentially get deals out of it.
It just reminds me of the hutterites down here in Lethbridge when Ag Expo roles around

Nah... the Mrs isn't interested in stuff like this.... I can barely talk her into going golfing with me once or twice a year.
As for a buddy going with me.... I'm the only one dumb enough in my group of friends to even consider spending $8.00 (which would be 1/2 the price of a ticket) to go to something like this. They'd rather take the $8.00 and use it on a small bucket of ball at the driving range. I'd probably do that too, but I've got the damn pinched nerve in my neck that won't go away and I doubt I will be able to get out to the range for at least another couple of weeks. So, the next best thing would be to go to show and get my golf fix there.... IF, I can get in at a reasonable cost.... and to me $11 or $16 isn't reasonable.

I don't need to go to a golf show (and pay $11 to boot) to get "deals"
You can get "deals" off the internet all the time.
I just thought going to the golf show would be a good way to kill a Saturday afternoon. I'm just not interested in wasting $11 to do it. There are other things I'd rather spend the $11 on.
Does that make me cheap? I don't think so. I just think that entry into the golf show is overpriced and not worth the money.

So then don't go, I never said that you were cheap. Golf is not a "cheap" mans sport by any means but keep in mind shows like this cost money to put on and also to exhibit in, they have to recoup their costs somehow. Even if you were to track down some freebies someone has had to pay for them at some point somehow.

Exhibitors get loads of free passes. Its included in their exhibition fee. The cost of the show is born by the exhibitors (who are there to sell their product to John Q Public). The money that is collected at the door is gravy to the event organizer.

Whenever I go I buy a golf pass for 30 insterad of 45. (there's my admission right there). Most of the places around here have contests, I spun one two years ago for River's edge and got a free cart (more than admission). Was given a 2 for 1 coupon to fairmont (also more than admission). So I dont have a proplem paying for that, also I got a pair of golf shoes for 20 bucks.
And when you purchase the ticket at the door you get $5.00 off at the clearance section.

I can't believe everyone is giving rerun such a hard time about this! I know exactly what you mean, you want to go and see what is there and at the end of it all you are going to face an endless sales pitch the whole time so why pay to see that commercial?
I don't know why no one else can see your conundrum here. I don't know of any free tickets otherwise I would point you in that direction. Btw I also get that golf isn't a cheap sport but that is irrelevant. Just because the sport is expensive doesn't mean you should just hand over your wallet to look at golf deals.

Just for a bit of perspective here......people are paying more than the ticket price for a pack of smokes these days.

True enough. I've gone to this show in the past (might even go this year) and some of the exhibitors there aren't even golf related though.
