Default Trinity and Beyond, the Atomic Bomb Movie

One of my all time favorite documentaries. If you've never seen it, it is highly recommended. It profiles the nuclear weapons program from the start, and has amazing footage of the test explosions which are colorized. The musical score is awesome as well. It also gives you an idea of the the fear people lived in during the cold war. They also have the amazing footage of 'Tsar Bomba' the 57 megaton device the Soviets detonated, making it the largest human created explosion ever (in the movie they refer to it as 'the monster bomb').

If you are a science buff, or a war buff, you'll love it. Even better it is narrated by Bill Shatner, and better yet, you can watch it online, free.

I love this film, and probably not for the same reason as most.

I find the ever bigger explosions seductive. I can honestly see how those scientists, engineers, and generals probably loved their work. Each bomb so meticulously designed, yields calculated, and then a perfect detonation. Beautiful.

So you're an "Atomic John?"

It's a term coined by the New Yorker in 2008 about people who fetishize or romanticize atom bombs

Hilarious that this thread was made. I watched this back in the mid 90's and decided to download it again the other day. Such a cool movie. If you ever forget just how insane nuclear weapons are in terms of destructive power, this film reminds you in a hurry.

Of course it's cool. I mean, can you really ever go wrong with something narrated by the Shat?
