Default How to properly hold a fundraiser...

I am looking to hold a fundraiser for Japan this Friday by renting out our party room. General concept would be a few kegs, couple djs and a good time. We would be collecting $20 at the door and would shoot for 100-150 people. Calculating expenses, we would take in around $2000 and have $1000 in expenses. I felt it was best to give the other $1000 to a reputable organization such as the Red Cross.
After speaking with some people it sounds like there is way more to this than holding a party and sending the remaining money to the red cross.
Has anyone ever done anything like this or have any advice?
Thanks in advance.
