Default Table Top

Hello CP,

I have a poker table that I also use as a kitchen table. its about 47' in diameter. Right now all i have on it is a table cloth but Im looking for something to put on top of it when its just being used as a table. I was thinking like some plexiglass or something. Does anyone know where I can get something like that and get it cut to the right size? Or any better suggestions?

Thanks

You could just use shower board from Home Depot. Especially if you are willing to cover it with a table cloth.

Pier 1 sells 48" round table glass

Urban Barn as well, or maybe it's the furniture shop next to it in Kensington (In Gear of Kilian?) Bought my table top there when I lived in Calgary, then its replacement at Pier 1 when the movers dropped the original.

It was way cheaper buying the replacement at Pier 1 than haveing a table top custom cut at a glass place $75 vs ~$300

Shower board is the stuff that is used for the sides of showers, I dont know what it would be called on thier website, but look for shower supply stuff. Comes in 4x8 sheets and is usually pretty cheap.

Google has led to to believe thet they are more commonly called Shower Wall Panels. It is what this guy is putting up on his wall as he is making a shower according to this project guide. We bought some for my moms place a few years back and I think we paid maybe 50 bucks for 5 sheets to surround her tub.

edit: Found a online site for them, not that you want to be ordering them online, but just to show you basic price range etc http://www.bathroommarquee.co.uk/shower-wall-panel.htm

puck board is cheap enough get it at rona cut with jig

Mdf 1/2" no snags with this stuff (under 30 bones) cut with jig saw

Plexi - approx 90 bucks for a sheet (4x8) cut with jig saw...will use up blade quickly

I know of another product it is plexi in the middle and aluminum veener or stainless veneer. it is called multipanel and available in many colors. it is approx 90-120 per sheet 4x8. Cut with jigsaw and use a file to pull of the burrs. Looks very cool.

let me know if you want more info.

Any place that sells shower doors etc and custom cuts glass will do this. And it is not all that expensive either.

By the way, go glass, not plexiglass, especially if you have stoneware dishes or any type of dish that has rough spots on the bottom. Glass will never scratch from that but plexiglass sort of does and it ends up looking grey and dull and dingy.

And you should go bevelled, then no chance of cutting yourself. I have used both Cascade Glass a bit north of Chinook Shopping center on Macleod Trail as well as Chinook Glass on 16 Ave NW, both do good work.

And all tables will have a slightly different lip around the edge. So take a piece of paper and bend it over that lip with enough force that the lip makes an indentation on the paper. Take that to whoever is cutting a top for your table and they will know exactly how to bevel it etc.
