Dear PS3 Owners: Is the remote worth buying?
I know there are also the Harmony PS3 adapters, but it seems a little excessive to pay $59.99 for such limited functionality.
For $24.99 it seems like it may be worth buying one of these remotes for watching movies, as opposed to using the Six-Axis control.

i have one and never use it.
its just easier to use the controller IMO. at first i thought it would be nice since i could leave the remote next to the couch so it would be more accessible than my controllers that are stored in my tv stand. however, since you pretty much have to go up to the tv/ps3 to put in the disc, it negated that point.
it also seemed to go through batteries pretty quick. not sure if it had too long of a shutdown time after no button presses, but it went through them pretty darned quick for how little it was used.
another advantage can be not having to remember which six axis button does what, but i found that to be a pretty negligible difference.
those are my thoughts.

I like it, plus my wife knows how to make it work and I don't have to explain how to play movies with it. I didn't have the poor battery life that the other user did. I just finally killed the first pair of batteries that I put in it 3 years ago.

Nyko makes a ps3 remote that goes for around 20$ online, it includes an IR adaptor. with that adaptor you can use your harmony!

I use my remote all the time...I stream a lot of tv shows from my computer to the ps3. i have had my ps3 for as long as I can remembered.. and the battery is still good in it.
For some reason.. i still feel the need to aim the PS3 remote at my ps3 when navigating...

I used the remote for the longest time; works fine, tons better then the controller. Especially if someone new tries to watch a video, they'll be pulling their hair out if they have to use the controller.
Even though the Harmony adaptor is expensive, I think it's worth it. It doesn't take up a USB port, and it works like a charm on the PS3.

I use my PS3 more as a media server/DVD/Bluray/Netflix player than a video game system. I have, and use the remote more than the controller.
Depends on how much you use the media side of things, but I would reccomend the controller if you use it more media than games.

Not talking about the remote; the Nyko IR adaptor uses a USB port.

So I bought one of the remotes, and don't regret the decision at all. It's great for browsing my music library through my media server, and I'm sure it would be great for Netflix if/when I get it.
The next step for me would be a Harmony adapter, but at that point I'd have a separate Blu Ray player anyways making it a moot point to get the adapter. Just use the PS3 remote for PS3 applications and the Harmony for watching movies.
I'm going to ask for one of these badasses for Christmas:

I also have the Nyko PS3 USB IR adapter (with remote, which is useless to me) paired with a Harmony remote... works great!
