Default Medical History

I was just hoping to tap into CP's wealth of knowledge.

My wife and I had a child last month and the issue of my wife's medical history came up. My wife was adopted as a baby in Manitoba and all she was told when she got older was that her biological mother had no major medical issues.

However, we would like to know if there is a history as far as high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. perhaps in her biological grandparents, or even in her biological aunts and uncles.

My wife has no desire to track down her biological mother, but we would like to get a better understanding of her history. My wife is pretty healthy - all she has is celiac allergy and maybe some iron deficiencies.

Does anybody know how one would track down this info?

After you've been married awhile longer you will realize your wife is predisposed to being CRAZY just like the rest of them

She should be able to ask for non-identifying medical information on her birth mother/parents from the Manitoba Gov't - chances are it'd be from Child and Family Services, who would hold the adoption records. Not sure how many details you'd get, but yes, there are options like this. Good luck.

a) People with Celiac's usually are iron deficient (at least when they're diagnosed) as they have a hard time absorbing iron. Its one of the most common indicators of Celiacs.

b) That aside, Im pretty sure getting other people's history is pretty much impossible. But thats just my guess based on no real facts other than Medical Privacy

It's not cheap, but your wife would be able to find out what diseases she's predisposed to without having to look for any information about her parents.
