Default Where is your dream place to move to

I currently have been looking at Phoenix as a great place to live with cheap housing and swimming pools etc etc

Anyone live or ever been there that could advise me

I hear Phoenix is a haven for cheap coolers and people that have the same first name as NHLers.

Paris, France.

As for Phoenix, I've never been there, so I can't help.

Phoenix seems like one of those places that if you don't like to play golf or just lay by the pool all day, get's boring really fast. It doesn't seem to have a lot of variety, so you better like the one thing that it does provide.

I'm still trying to find my dream place. As soon as I do, I'm moving there.

I'd probably choose Mission Bay in Auckland, New Zealand. You get a great oceanside residence, lots of outdoor life along the beach, and plenty of culture around to enjoy. Green all year round, only 10 minutes from the downtown scene, and if you really want it, snow and skiing only an hour or two away. I'd love to move there, and will definitely retire there one day.

As soon as I saw Ozy post in this thread I thought "bet he says somewhere in NZ and mentions culture".

You're free to mock my love of Rome.

I wish I had a better international place to make me feel a little cultured but man I'd love a little place in San Diego right on the beach. Wake up and surf in the morning and just enjoy that great California weather with none of the LA crazies!

For me anyway Phx is great for a week or two, and may very well be where I spend my winters when I retire. However after spending what has amounted to almost 8 months down there now I have learned a few things over the trips.

Everyone knows about Phx positives, the weather (outside of May-August), great golfing, since they put together the ring roads it's not too bad to drive around town and great restaurants. All the things you'd want if you were there for a week.

However some negatives are that it's a mediocre sports town, the facilities are great, but whole idea of the football stadium and nhl rink in glendale is a joke. Many ppl there are fans of other teams as they came from the Mid west. There will be more Chicago fans at a cubs or blackhawks game than you could believe, so there's not a great deal of passion for the local teams. When the Cards made their run in 08 a pool company had to buy the last 1000 seats to allow for the game have the blackout lifted. An NFL team that can't sell out a playoff game? Not alot of arts and the culture I find to be very superficial. Something I'd fully expect in Vegas, but maybe nowhere else.

As far as places in Canada go, I have lived in Edmonton and Vancouver most of my life and I moved to Kelowna for work last year and so far it has blown my mind. Arguably the best winter and summer destination in Canada.

I highly recommend it. We have been here going on 2 years and absolutely love it.

My dream place (that will never happen) would be to live in France, south of Lyon.
My dream place (for more practical reasons) would be to live back in Calgary.

Don't worry about it. Had you not said it, I'm sure Muta would have. One of you two had to vouch for NZ.

Anyway, Rome's where it's at. I question my own judgement for ever leaving. I'll move back someday.

Ideal? Not sure, somewhere with warm water. beaches, urban feel, English (or French) and a strong liberal/libertarian bent.

It's not Phoenix, since I'd rather be playing beach volleyball than golf.

Ok, but just sounds like it's hitting a sore spot with you. I have every right to say NZ, as much as you do saying Rome.

What are you trying to get at here?
