Holy smokes it is truly hard to fathom that people like this are still in the public conscience.
"That's my job -- to preach this stuff and to strive against sin," Phelps said Tuesday, describing homosexuality as a "filthy lifestyle."
Phelps has long been a fierce foe of gay rights. His church has picketed the funerals of AIDS victims for more than a decade. His protest outside the 1998 funeral for Matthew Shepherd, the gay college student beaten to death in Wyoming, led to his portrayal in the play "The Laramie Project."
Embarrassing

Same ilk as the radical pro-choicers who hand out pictures of aborted fetuses to little kids to give to their parents.
They should all leave the planet in a gruesome and painful fashion.

I'd like to know the story behind the "Thank God For Tsunami" poster. Anyone know anything about that?

I can't believe crackpots like the ones mentioned in the article.
What does he expect to accomplish by picketing the funerals of AIDS victims?
"The dead person lived an immoral lifestyle and they should turn away from it before they d... never mind."
I think if I saw anyone picketting a funeral of any person I would be really inclined to go kick the living p*ss out of them. Seriously, let the dead rest and their families mourn.

The writing on that sign tells you pretty much what you need to know. That group of do-gooders was very happy with all the death in those countries because a) they are filled with idolaters (sp?), b ) lots of Swedes were there (they really hate Swedes) and c) it's the wrath of god for all sorts of things bla bla bla with the quotes and stuff.
Next time do your own research you lazy ******.

What's the problem there? Nothing on those that's any more gruesome than what kids watch on tv. Besides, the fetus isn't a real person, right? So where's the harm?

I take it then that you wouldn't have a problem with a protestor showing a sign of an aborted fetus to your son or daughter? Par for the course? You honestly don't see how issue could be taken with this practise? If not, then I doubt much anyone says could sway you...

those comics were hilarious in a concerning way.
As for this "gentleman reverend"... whats the point?... if you are against this lifestyle, protest in an effective and less repulsive way.

I'm not looking for someone to sway my opinion. I've just never had anyone explain to me why this imagery is so disturbing. Disturbing enough that someone would wish these people not only die, but in a painful fashion.

You don't think that kind of stuff would be disturbing to a 4 year old?

I'll tell you what would be disturbing for a four year old. Telling him he was going to have a baby sister, and then later telling him that you decided to kill that sister because you just couldn't afford another kid. Sure as hell disturbs me.

Yeah, me too.
I think you are confused on what I was saying maybe. In any case, I'm lost as to what your point about it was.

Yeah, that would be disturbing alright.
Does that mean that showing pictures of aborted foetuses to small children is okay then, because it's not as bad as the scenario you just conjured up?

I guess my point is this. I have a problem with you wishing a tortuous death on someone because they do something you find merely "disturbing". I completely agree that passing those pamphlets to a four year old is wrong. Not only wrong, but kind of stupid. I mean, is that your target audience? Four year old kids? I guess the idea is to stir shinguard up with the parents, but I wouldn't call that a great way to win a debate.
Of course, I remember all kinds of problems at the U of A when the pro-lifers had a table in SUB and had some posters of aborted fetuses. I think in the end they were told to take the posters down. Why? If a certain person does not believe that a fetus is a living human, then what is so disturbing in those pictures?

You've lost the point. It's not that I find it disturbing. It's that it is disturbing to a child. Things that are disturbing to children shouldn't happen when at all possible. They shouldn't be seeing their parents murdered, they shouldn't be seeing porn and they shouldn't see pictures of dead fetuses.
Has nothing to do with me.
People that disturb children should die a tortorous death. Yes. That's my feeling.

That's a pretty bold feeling. Not sure I agree with it, but I can understand it, since I've got a child of my own.
