Default Splitting title on a duplex - any experiences?

Has any ever split the title on a property in Calgary?

What's involved? The property is completely separated utility wise and everything, so I don't think there'll be much if anything in the way of work to be done.

Do I just call the city and ask?

TIA

How do I go about subdividing my land?

An application to subdivide land must be made with the subdivision authority. Check with the municipality in which the land proposed to be subdivided is located regarding the application form and the procedure to follow.

What is a Subdivision?

Subdivision is the process of dividing land into smaller parcels.

The Subdivision Authority, as defined in the Municipal Government Act (623), is authorized to make subdivision decisions on behalf of The City. In Calgary the Subdivision Authority is currently the Calgary Planning Commission (CPC) and the Senior Subdivision Officer.

The application process for Subdivision Applications is changing. Effective 2007 January 1, all Subdivision Applications are required to be submitted electronically (ePlans).

You'll need a survey done. They will produce a plan, submit it as a tentative subdivision plan to the City, along with an application to subdivide. Upon approval, the plan will be registered with Land Titles, and two new titles issued.

Here's a list of legal land surveying companies

Call around for prices. Some only do oil and gas work though.
