Trades! you can make trades but the it has to be zero-sum since every team needs 16 people. For example Team A can trade the 1st and 40th pick to Team B for the 5th and 6th pick. Or trade a person for another person etc...There is no trade deadline however there will be no trades allowed after the very last pick.

Make use of PMs and the chatroom to negotiate.

--

Switching!
At any time you can switch a person from one category to another if it qualifies.

--

Team names: you are welcome to PM me your team name and I'll add it to the draft board.

--

When you are selecting please state in BOLD letters who you are selecting and in what category.

example: With the 1st overall pick of the draft, GirlySport's In-Box selects Queen Latifa in the Monarch category.

You are welcome to post 1 or 2 nice and CLEAN and not too big pictures of your selection. If you have a link to a NSFW picture please say so.

And you can use a paragraph to state your case of why you made this selection.

That's pretty much it. Any questions you can ask in here or PM me...
Please be patient as people are not always checking this forum (especially on weekends).

If you can't make your selection for a long period of time let everyone know. If you can't continue also let me know and hopefully we can find a replacement.

Also, if you are away for a period of time, you can send me a list of 3-5 picks and I will draft for you.

With the 1st overall pick, Team U.S.Eh! selects Muhammad in the Philosopher Category

Obviously, Muhammad can fit into many categories, so I reserve the right to move him arbitrarily.

Summarized from wiki:
Muhammad was the founder of the religion of Islam and is regarded by Muslims as a messenger and prophet of God, the greatest law-bearer in a series of Islamic prophets and by most Muslims the last prophet as taught by the Koran. Muslims thus consider him the restorer of an uncorrupted original monotheistic faith. He was also active as a diplomat, merchant, philosopher, orator, legislator, reformer, military general, and, according to Muslim belief, an agent of divine action.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad

This draft is going to be fun, and a lot to think about!

Since the health of our citizens is of paramount importance, my first selection is in the DOCTOR category:

Andreas Vesalius (December 31, 1514 – October 15, 1564) was an anatomist, physician, and author of one of the most influential books on human anatomy, De humani corporis fabrica (On the Workings of the Human Body). Vesalius is often referred to as the founder of modern human anatomy.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andreas_Vesalius

Vesalius was born in Brussels, then in the Habsburg Netherlands, to a family of physicians

In 1528 Vesalius entered the University of Louvain (Pedagogium Castrense) taking arts, but when his father was appointed as the Valet de Chambre in 1532, he decided to pursue a career in medicine at the University of Paris, where he moved in 1533. Here he studied the theories of Galen under the auspices of Jacques Dubois (Jacobus Sylvius) and Jean Fernel. It was during this time that he developed his interest in anatomy, and was often found examining bones at the Cemetery of the Innocents.

Vesalius was forced to leave Paris in 1536 due to the opening of hostilities between the Holy Roman Empire and France, and returned to Leuven. Here he completed his studies under Johannes Winter von Andernach and graduated the next year. His thesis, Paraphrasis in nonum librum Rhazae medici arabis clariss. ad regem Almansorum de affectuum singularum corporis partium curatione, was a commentary on the ninth book of Rhazes. He remained at Leuven only briefly before leaving after a dispute with his professor. After settling briefly in Venice in 1536, he moved to the University of Padua (Universitas artistarum) to study for his doctorate, which he received in 1537.

On graduation he was immediately offered the chair of Surgery and Anatomy (explicator chirurgiae) at Padua. He also guest lectured at Bologna and Pisa. Previously these topics had been taught primarily from reading classic texts, mainly Galen, followed by an animal dissection by a barber-surgeon whose work was directed by the lecturer. No attempt was made to actually check Galen's claims; these were considered unassailable. Vesalius, on the other hand, carried out dissection as the primary teaching tool, handling the actual work himself while his students clustered around the table. Hands-on direct observation was considered the only reliable resource, a huge break with medieval practice.

Modern medicine is forever in debt to the efforts put forth by Vesalius and his ethic to provide the most accurate form of the human body. The manner in which Vesalius tended to his work could arguably be thought of as more significant than the work itself. By overthrowing the Galenic tradition and relying on his own observations, Vesalius created a new scientific method. His desire to strive for the truth is most evident through his ability to correct his own claims and to continually reshape his thoughts on the human body. Through his attention to detail, he was able to provide clear descriptions and unprecedented anatomical drawings that set a new standard for future medical books.

Andreas Vesalius's De Humani Corporis Fabrica
De Humani Corporis Fabrica (On the Fabric of the Human Body) is one of the most influential works in the history of Western medicine. It was conceived and written by 28-year-old Andreas Vesalius (1514-1564), a professor at the University of Padua. Vesalius was both a gifted dissector and a learned scholar whose great contribution was to apply to anatomy the critical methods developed by the Renaissance humanist scholars.
Turn The Pages

http://neurophilosophy.wordpress.com...-day-vesalius/

Vesalius obtained the corpses for his dissections from grave robbers. A judge who became interested in Vesalius’ work made the bodies of executed criminals available to him. In some of the illustrations in De Humani, Vesalius has included the noose around the neck.

In the category of Businessman/Entrepreneur I hereby proclaim Henry Ford the newest Displaysian.

Henry Ford (July 30, 1863 – April 7, 1947), a prominent American industrialist, supporter of workers' welfare and pacifism, was the founder of the Ford Motor Company and father of modern assembly lines used in mass production. His introduction of the Model Tautomobile revolutionized transportation and American industry. As owner of the Ford Motor Company, he became one of the richest and best-known people in the world. He is credited with "Fordism", that is, mass production of inexpensive goods coupled with high wages for workers. Ford had a global vision, with consumerism as the key to peace. His intense commitment to systematically lowering costs resulted in many technical and business innovations, including a franchise system that put a dealership in every city in North America, and in major cities on six continents. Ford left most of his vast wealth to the Ford Foundation but arranged for his family to control the company permanently.

Ford's innovation both in manufacturing and labor relations built one of the strongest companies in American history and a company that really laughs at the competition in today's market. The only American automaker to not take bailout money from the US government, Ford continues to enjoy healthy sales with their solid product line and lean manufacturing.

As a Displaysian, Henry Ford will provide our fledgling nation with a solid manufacturing process and an economic start.

SebC selects Locke in the Philosopher category.

Not CP's Locke or Locke from Lost, but rather their namesake... John Locke, the father of Liberalism.

Sorry guys, been on CP for an hour and forgot to check here first.

With the 5th overall pick, the UTSR is proud to select in the Musician category:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (German: [ˈvɔlfɡaŋ amaˈdeus ˈmoːtsaʁt], baptismal name Johannes Chrysostomus Wolfgangus Theophilus Mozart[1] (27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791), was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. He composed over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, piano, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers.

The UTSR is commited to the fostering of arts and culture and there is simply no greater ambassador than Wolfgang. This was an easy decision.

The serene republic of VULGARIA proudly selects an artist to begin population.

ARTIST:

I will pick an artist whose work astounds me.

Michelangelo Buonoratti

Sculpture
Painting

"Michelangelo stands as a unique, almost mythic, presence in the history of art. For many, he embodies the Italian Renaissance and his work stands as its most eloquent expression. Atthough he was probably the most influential visual artist who ever lived, Michelangelo was as comfortable composing verse as he was sculpting stone, and as meticulous in supervising the details of quarrying the marble for his statues as in craftingthe details that adorn his architectural masterpieces."

-William E Wallace

For me, he is the absolute master in sculpture, and I find he also painted with few peers. The detail and realism in his art astounds.

Born 1475 Caprese.
Died 1564 Rome.

What he managed to accomplish in that time frame is staggering. I imagine most who read this will be aware of the Sistine Chapel and the statue of David, and those are two works of awe inspiring talent; but I will focus on my favorites.

Painting : The Tondo Doni, Uffizi Gallery Firenze
Sculpture : Pieta, St Peter's, vatican City

** I tried to link a wonderful, erudite write up with photos from the historical draft, but failed.

Cheena selects in the Philosopher category Plato.

Plato (English pronunciation: /ˈpleɪtoʊ/; Greek: Πλάτων, Plátōn, "broad"[2]; 428/427 BC[a] – 348/347 BC), was a Classical Greek philosopher, mathematician, writer of philosophical dialogues, and founder of the Academy in Athens, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world. Along with his mentor, Socrates, and his student, Aristotle, Plato helped to lay the foundations of Western philosophy and science.[3] Plato was originally a student of Socrates, and was as much influenced by his thinking as by his apparently unjust execution.
Plato's sophistication as a writer is evident in his Socratic dialogues; thirty-six dialogues and thirteen letters have been ascribed to him. Plato's writings have been published in several fashions; this has led to several conventions regarding the naming and referencing of Plato's texts.
Plato's dialogues have been used to teach a range of subjects, including philosophy, logic, rhetoric and mathematics.

Sorry about the delay guys.
With our first round pick, the Democratic Dictatorship of the Badaland is pleased to select Leonardo da Vinci in the Scientist category.

"According to art historian Helen Gardner, the scope and depth of his interests were without precedent and "his mind and personality seem to us superhuman, the man himself mysterious and remote". Marco Rosci points out, however, that while there is much speculation about Leonardo, his vision of the world is essentially logical rather than mysterious, and that the empirical methods he employed were unusual for his time."

"Leonardo is revered for his technological ingenuity... As a scientist, he greatly advanced the state of knowledge in the fields of anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics."
