Default Living in Calgary?

I live in United States right now, in the US military. My time is up in 3.5 years, and I was a little curious about the city? My fellow workmates and I go up to Manitoba all the time. Every time it gets harder for me to come back I can see myself living in Alberta. I'm more the outdoors type, cold is not an issue. North Dakota for 5 years and Minnesota for the rest of my life before enlisting. I am looking to you for answers, the economy the schooling. All of that good stuff.

Thanks in advance.

What do you do / want to do.......

I've heard stories about some companies not recognizing military training / experience so you may have to start at the bottom even though you're a senior type employee.

I would go as far as joining the military, I don't mind the United States military but some of my views are different than our military. I like the laid back Canadian atmosphere, the area. I haven't the slightest clue how the hell that would work. US Military to Canadian forces, any clue. I will be 27 when I get out.

I'm pretty positive you would have to do BMQ, SQ, and your trade qualification all over again if you came up here. To tell you the truth, I don't now why you would want to do basic twice. Once was enough for me, but I don't thin you could get around it because the drill is completely different, the weapons are slightly different, and the culture is different from my limited experiences in Ft. Lewis.

What is your trade; some trades are not being accepted right now because they are full.

I would be careful about the 'view' thing. Many of Canadian Military views are similar to US. We are in Afghanistan, and although we will most likely be out of there by the time you would get up here, the next fight could be around the corner.

Canadians may be laid back, but people join the CF for one reason now. To fight in Afghanistan. People always talk about Canada's peacekeeping legacy, but I can tell you from experience, and you now this as well as I do, soldiers join to fight, not to peacekeeper.

Honestly, I thin it would probably be easier for you to move to a place lie Montana. Similar to Alberta, but your military credentials would be recognized. You could tae trips into Alberta easily, and maybe you could find a job out there.

Good luck.
