Default Ole Miss finally accepts that the War of Northern Aggression has been lost

...and they are replacing their confederate soldier mascot.

Guess who the students want as the replacement?

I'm sure George Lucas may have something to say about it, but it would be awesome anyways

This article relates to the history of Ole' Miss and the racial tension that exisited (exists?) in that neck of the woods, and the impact it had on college football. Crazy to think this was only 50 years ago.

Interesting read.

The riot, yeah.

But notice how the article started?
Quote:
When I was 5 or 6, because of my dad's political activism in the Mississippi Delta, local white supremacists burned a cross in our front yard.
The author of the article is Wright Thompson.
From Wiki: Wright Thompson (born September 9, 1976) is a senior writer for ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine.

That means white supremacists burned a cross on his front yard in 1981 or 1982.

Now THAT is scary.

If Porky's II taught me anything it's that the Crazy Ks were definitely going strong in the early 80s.

In all seriousness, they're still around doing what they do and they probably always will be.

The part that I found interesting and unbelievable at the same time was the government's involvement.

So a movie that takes place in 1954 taught you that the KKK was going strong in the 1980's?
