Instead of using lasers to blind goalies, scientists have built one to kill Mosquitoes

my concern with this is if these things start being placed everywhere what impact will it have on other animals like bats and frogs that consume vast quantities of mosquitos?

Just come out and say it.

You're worried about the magpies.

But the only reason we like bats and frogs is because they eat mosquitoes and other annoying insects. This will make them obsolete

Eradicate 'em all. Mosquitoes, bats, frogs, magpies, dogs, bears. Just get it over with.

Propably none, even assuming it actually works outside a lab. These would only be placed where humans live, and mosquitoes feed on other animals too.

I don't see lasers as the most cost effective way to fight malaria in third world countries anyway. Where's the electricity going to come from, just to start with?

But I could see these being a big hit in the developed countries, if the price is right and it actually works.

However, somehow I doubt could even kill all the mosquitoes in a room with furniture with that thing, since I assume the laser needs a clear line of fire, and the camera can't see everywhere.

I'm guessing just another cool toy.

Cost effective: No.

Awesome: Yes.

Will I buy 20 of them and create a mosquito skeet shooting range in the summer in northern saskatchewan: Yes.
