1st annual CP motorcycle ride Sunday May 16th.
Edit: I didn't realize the original date was Mothers Day, so the Date has been moved to the next Sunday, May 16th.
Its that time of year to dust of your rides, clean the bugs off those leathers, wax the chain (grease your shaft? in some cases) and check the tire pressures. Riding season appears to be here for the year, and I cannot recall ever seeing a group ride for the motorcycle owners on this board.
I am in need of some new riding pals as a couple of my buddies have given up on the 2 wheel lifestyle, and a few others never seem to be able to come out any more.
The date I have in mind is Sunday May 16th (weather permitting of course) and the route.... well I would be open to suggestions, but I think meet up in Westhills at 10:00 am, head towards Bragg Creek, pit there, take 762/22 to Turner Valley, have lunch and head back on the same route.
I don't care what you ride all are invited. Just make sure your machine can maintain highway speeds. This isn't a Cruiser vs. Sport bike vs. Standard thing as it will be a law abiding, alcohol free ride, and ego's need to be checked at the door, translation... no stunting / 'excessive' speeding. And hopefully someone brings a big fat cruiser or tourer (any Goldwing guys here?) I can trade off for on the way back, as my Hayabusa can get a little cramped after about an hour.
If you are interested post a picture of your ride, and RSVP in the thread. And you photo shop guys, how about a CP motorcycle club patch?
I'll start:
Pylon and his 2008 GSX1300R Hayabusa will be there.
In for the ride:
Pylon: 08 Hayabusa
WilsonFourTwo: 00 VFR800

A terrific idea, Pylon for Mayor! May 9th sounds great and I've always enjoyed that route....count me in!
As luck would have it, I just picked up a 2000 Honda VFR800 yesterday (no pics, yet )......the bike that started this little 2-wheeled obsession of mine. Put in a lot of miles to get my skills up to scratch, but wow, so worth the wait!
"law abiding, alcohol free ride, and ego's need to be checked at the door".....the recipe for a beautiful, problem free day.

I would actually suggest you join. When I was starting out, group riding outside of the city was a terrific way to get experience. Plus, you will inevitably learn a ton about safe riding, maintaining your bike, etc just by sitting around bullsh***ng with folks.

I also don't have my own bike or moto licence yet. So if I somehow was able to make it at least one person would have to ride behind me.
I should add if anyone has an old cruiser bike that is just sitting collecting dust and wouldn't mind me buying for cheap or renting or borrowing for a month or two so I can have my own bike to practice on instead of borrowing my buddies all the time I would be really greatful.

There was a 'Buying a Motorbike' thread a couple of weeks ago. If you want some advice/opinions, you could probably resurrect that thread.
Also, if/when you ever need a second set of eyes on a used bike, feel free to PM me. I'm only a moderate level gear-head, but that may be of some help.

Aside from those who own local luncheon spots, the locals who live in Turner and Longview are really starting to hate the noise from their hundreds of summer weekend motorcycle visitors, particularly in Longview.
Drives 'em insane.

Thanks Wilson! I have been looking for quite some time now and have several friends that have owned/own bikes at the moment. I have been riding for a few years but never really wanted to spend the cash on my own. I have found the bike I want and am checking it out tonight. Hopefully all goes well and I can pick it up.
Thanks again

I've got a 2004 Honda Shadow 750, that I'm passively trying to get rid of.

Not trying to sound like a dick, but what's your point? Are you hinting that they take their ride somewhere else?

Actually, I'm the one being the dick . . . . . if passing along local concerns is being a dick.
I think a sizeable portion of the populations of those towns would actually appreciate you guyz taking your ride somewhere else. It would make their weekends less deafening.
But that's free enterprise. The owners of those establishments serving bikers certainly wouldn't like it if the business disappeared.
You're now armed with the information. Do what you want with it.
FYI, I don't live in either place, although not too far away. I don't care. They do. Mercifully, I live a mile off a highway, at the end of a dead end gravel road. Peaceful.

I hate motorcycles for this very reason.
Living near a bohemian urban village drawns the motorcyclists and their needlessly loud arrogant inappropriate bikes. I want to drop a bomb on the Harley Davidson factory. Here's a clue Harley Davidson guy: everyone else thinks you're a dick and no that bike is not going to get you laid.

If you're not trying to be a dick, why did you post this? You seriously didn't get the point? You didn't get the hint that they take the ride elsewhere?

Because I would like to know what the actual solution is, numb nuts. Saying, "Take it somewhere else!" isn't really being constructive. It's just b!tching and complaining.
Bikes do need gas, and people are allowed to stop for lunch and take breaks you know. Also, riding motorcycles on public roads is completely legal.
So, what exactly is your plan to stop all this, hmm?
I live along 17th Ave (downtown), so I should probably complain about bar noise, right? Some things come with the territory, so don't get your panties all in a bunch.

That's not what this chick says:
I'll take Marisa Miller's word over yours any day.

For the record, I'm very much about being respectful when riding, because I understand that there is a stigma that goes along with it. While others get louder pipes, I actually bought silencers for mine to make it quiet. I did so because I don't want to wake my neighbors if I happen to take my bike out early in the morning.
That said, why should riders avoid certain areas, especially if they're not doing anything illegal? Because it upsets some people? If that's the case, they would not be able to ride anywhere.
If I upset some people because I stop in their town to get some gas or a bite to eat, then so be it. I can do everything by the book, and that won't stop a thing. They knew they hated me before I even got there, so....
