Probably waited till after Jobs died to avoid another smug open letter claiming victory.

This sucks for everyone until many websites do transition away from flash. Many of my online courses are still dependant on flash. It's nice to be able to do them or study from an Android device.

Default Adobe to More Aggressively Contribute to HTML5

http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplatform...-to-html5.html

Over the past two years, we’ve delivered Flash Player for mobile browsers and brought the full expressiveness of the web to many mobile devices.

However, HTML5 is now universally supported on major mobile devices, in some cases exclusively. This makes HTML5 the best solution for creating and deploying content in the browser across mobile platforms. We are excited about this, and will continue our work with key players in the HTML community, including Google, Apple, Microsoft and RIM, to drive HTML5 innovation they can use to advance their mobile browsers.

Anytime I see Flash take a hit I get a little happier. That program stole too much of my youth. See you in hell Flash.

Shoot looks like I missed the other thread posted about an hour earlier.

Perhaps merge/delete?

Sorry about that.

Couldn't be here to relish his victory as a bully? That's all Apple and Jobs did here. Bully Adobe out with what was effectively a 3rd party veto with their power over the mobile market. Flash may not be efficient and it may have security risks, but it's still a useful plugin and there is a lot of fantastic web content that was and will only be available in flash. Microsoft had a hand in this also with Windows 8 Mobile also being designed to not support plugins and therefore Flash.

What did Flash do to you? There is so much content on the web that is flash and deserves to be archived and available for posterity.

Adobe is only focusing on HTML5 because all the big players effectively said they weren't going to allow flash anymore. Apple with Job's bullying stubbornness a few years ago and now Microsoft who won't support plugins in their future mobile operating systems.

Yet, Flash is supported on the reigning mobile superpower OS today, and Adobe still pulls the plug on Flash?

After playing Fieldrunners in HTML5 I'm 100% convinced that there is no longer any place on the web for Flash, except in a backwards compatibility capacity for old content that is no longer maintained (and probably didn't need Flash in the first).

Adobe is getting exactly what it deserves. All of the big players are sick of an insecure, unstable, inefficient plug in crashing their browsers and causing them to have to provide it's users with security patches. Even with Google's support, they couldn't get it working well on Android tablets. It's crap and I have two Flash sites out there. Posterity fine, but lets move forward.

Flash is a horribly written cpu murdering security nightmare.

It won't be missed.

(Except for the thousands of Flash developers out there that will need new jobs in the coming years)

This is why Apple wanted it off their phones. Not sure why anyone would actively want to open up the possibility for security and memory problems.

Mobile Flash is being killed. Flash will still be available on your desktop browser so you can view all the content that won't be converted over to HTML5.

I think it has a lot less to do with bullying, and a lot more to do with Apple's philosophy of not including support for dying technologies.

Are you actually saying the web will suffer now that Flash is dead? That would be a gross overstatement if I've ever seen one.

“If the market tells us we’re making the wrong choices, we listen to the market,” said Jobs.

The market has spoken - even the competition couldn't get Flash working right on mobile devices.

Now nearly eight months after Adobe's announcement, the company is officially pulling Flash from the Google Play marketplace for Android for new users. Those users who already have Flash installed on their Android devices will, however, be able to continue receiving updates.

Beginning August 15th we will use the configuration settings in the Google Play Store to limit continued access to Flash Player updates to only those devices that have Flash Player already installed. Devices that do not have Flash Player already installed are increasingly likely to be incompatible with Flash Player and will no longer be able to install it from the Google Play Store after August 15th.
