Default Calgary Transit Workers are AWESOME

As I was walking home about 15 minutes ago, I went to cross the intersection on university drive, right by McMahon Stadium. There is a pedestrian cross walk, and I pressed the button to make the lights go.

A city bus slowed down and stopped for me, and I waved to say thanks to the driver, and proceeded to go across the street. I wasn't looking towards the bus, since I had already seen it stop, so I was looking the other way to make sure traffic coming in the opposite direction was stopping too. The next thing I know I hear the bus honking at me 4,5,6 times, the driver saw what was happening in her mirror. I look in that direction just in time to see a jeep cherokee come flying through on the outside lane, oblivious to the pedestrian signal light. I stopped dead in my tracks, less than 2 feet from getting run over by this guy. As he went by, I noticed he was texting on his cellphone, and had no idea what had just happened.

If it wasn't for that bus driver, I would be in the hospital right now or worse. So to whoever was driving that bus, I owe you my sincere thanks. Top marks for Calgary Transit.

To the jackastor driving the Jeep, get your head out of your a$$, you could have killed someone.

You should call the transit office too.

Too often, all they ever get is complaints. A thank-you is a nice gesture every now and again.

The guy was gone by the time I even thought of that. He was doing at least 80 on university drive which is a 60. I would have gotten seriously f'd up.

edit: yea the first thing I did was post about it on CP, second thing is calling city transit to say thanks. Go Priorities.

Assuming you got a good look at the guy (and the Jeep), I would be tempted to hang out on University Drive on Monday (or perhaps next Friday) with a few friends and some baseball bats... if he's on any kind of daily/weekly schedule (i.e. at the University or otherwise) he'll probably drive by there again

So I was driving along Crowchild today, when I heard a bus honking like crazy. I didn't bother to look up from my phone to see what the hubbub was about, but I'm going to send in a complaint about loud buses.

I drove bus for Calgary Transit many years ago,you would not believe how bad the "average" driver is...

Does anyone think they are less than a good driver?

I remember standing the bus just about on it's nose stopping on a green light... the guy running the red light looks at me, gives me the finger and drives away... Then the people on the bus are mad at me for slamming them around...

When I moved here and told people that you can use phones while driving in North America, they thought it was craziness. I thought: whatever, it's not that big a deal, I used to do it all the time. For the last two years, I've commuted 45 km every day on a motorcycle and can count the times I've almost been hit on three fingers (ask any motorcyclist in North America how many times a summer they have a close call). You almost never see those rush-hour fender benders. It has convinced me once and for all that driving with phones is the root of all evil.

You should have made sure no one was coming in the other lane. Not that it would have been legally your fault if you died but it is your life after all, you should be more careful.

Not saying the driver on their cellphone wasn't a dick though.

I would wait till the big traffic went by before trying to cross, or any traffic if it wasn't real busy.

It was the bus driver's fault for stopping her bus where she did and blocking your view of the outside lane.

Total negligence on her part. Too bad she warned you though. If you got hit you could have sued the city big time.

I know what you're saying fire, and to be honest, I checked both ways, and had the pedestrian light flashing before I even started crossing. I think it's time for some recon at the university, anyone know someone with a red jeep cherokee early 90's?
