Thats when you get when the parents cannot discipline their own kids. You can't touch your kid, the teachers can't touch your kid. So take the next step, get the police involved. Now this kid and the others around her will have something to think about the next time they think about pissing of the teacher.

Pretty pathetic that teachers can't handle a 12 year old girl.......

Even more pathetic that the cops showed up.......they must feel like big men after that...

This is not the way to spend our emergency service resources. The kid could have easily been punished with extra homework, detention or even a suspension. What kind of reaction did they think they were going to get.

To me the really troubling part isn't that the school called the cops because a student was doodling on a desk, it's that the cops actually showed up.

This overreaction probably has a lot to do with the school in which it occurred. Russell Sage Junior High is well known around here for being filled with future juveniles, pot-heads, drug addicts, and even some serious potential criminals. This is a school where older drug dealers hang around to make good money and students go out for a smoke after school (How many junior high students do you know that are already addicted to cigarettes?). Overall, while I agree that handcuffing her was taking it too far, I want to look at the bigger picture and say that their needs to be a much better disciplinary system in schools. Students can do almost anything without having to real wit consequences greater than a minor suspension.

The police station is also about 50 feet from the school, maybe less (not an exaggeration).

I am curious as to how many people actually read the article? Based on the responses I would say not many.

Bring back the strap and we wouldn't have juvenile delinquents like her.

BRING BACK CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN EDUCATION! Nothing ensures discipline like a good ass or hand whoopin.

????

I read that entire article and it was pretty disturbing. Not sure what kind of responses you expected but ones bashing the school shouldn't be surprising. In fact that article suggests an incredibly scary view of how militant the school systems are getting in the US.

Issuing tickets to appear in juvinille court for showing up late to class? Arresting 11 year old students for having food fights? Seriously, WTF?

You can tell with the ghetto hoop rings she is bad news.

She vandalized tax payer purchased property. While handcuffs are a little extreme its what our society has come to when parents who refuse to discipline their brats wont allow anyone else to do so.

It was also premeditated vandalism. She knew she would get some sort of punishment for vandalism, the school simply just took it to the next level.

Sounds more of a scare tactic meant to get the other brats inline rather than a serious police case IMO.

My dad teaches in Las Vegas, let's just say, some of the stuff teachers have to face, with no support from the administration, would make office workers cower in a corner. I know i couldn't handle it, I would get fired for kicking some ass.

In the states, they have coddled the kids to a point where they have taken over the schools. Teachers are largely left without even non-corporal punishment methods these days. Even detention is hard to sell to some principles.

Kids need to learn some important lessons that they aren't these days:

1) We can't all win, sometimes you lose, even when you do your best.
2) STFU & GBTW

Its not the parent its the child services that are on your case even if you yell at your kid inside your own house. I know couple people who have had services show up at their door unexpectedly cuz the neighbors called. Gone are the days of the strap and the paddle now if you're caught even giving your kid a stare you can be in deep doodle.

Instead of arresting her they should have made her stay and clean off all the graffiti around the school. There should be consequences to your actions.

Naw, you were right the first time. The logical consequence is the strap.
