I'll second Olives. They have delicious steak and pasta. I'm going to treat myself to some this weekend I think. MmmMmmmm.

If you like vietnamese, try Vietnam, on 12th and MacLeod.

Da Paolo is a great Italian restaurant a couple blocks away on 17th and 1st SE- a pretty classy restaurant though if you want casual.
Go to the Vietnamese restaurant above if you want to spend the evening in the toilet.

Several of us eat there a lot and have never experienced the sorts of things you mentioned... maybe it was you.

I love this place. They can get you in and out in 30 minutes too if you are running behind. Most other places around the Dome get pretty slow around game time.

Vietnam was my go-to-Vietnamese for years when I lived down there.

Ed's is still good, was there a couple of weeks ago. We usually start there before hitting Stampede as well, beer and food prices are reasonable.

I would also try the Blue Lotus place, on the corner of 11th and macleod. I find they have better meat there.

Loungeburger is great, but you need to get there super early for any Stampede Event.
I've been to Ed's numerous times and the service is usually bad and the food is somewhat overpriced for what you get... only reason that place stays afloat is b/c of the Dome.
St James pub is a couple of blocks farther away but pretty decent.
