I believe Western culture — rule of law, universal suffrage — is preferable to Arab culture.", ignoring secular Arabs, ignoring the huge numbers of Christian Arabs (for example, in his home country of Canada, a majority of Canadians of Arab origin are Christian, 350,000 out of approx 470,000). It's ironic that in making a statement that he is not racist but culturist, he in fact reduces Arab culture to Muslim culture, despite the reality that the two are very different and that many of the most extreme elements of Islam, especially in immigrant populations, are not even from Arab countries. I'm sure Mr. Steyn is a great supporter of Israel, which he might be interested in knowing could be described as a 70% Arab state, since 20% are 'Arab-Israelis' (Christians and Muslims) and a full other 50% are 'Arab Jews'. The term 'Arab Jew' is of course controversial, but the general gist is that they are Syrians etc. etc. not from Europe, though of course they are perceived to share a generally common Jewish lineage in one way or the other (and likely do, but it's as likely that many Muslims in the region were Jews who converted ages ago).
That said, I would not take away his right to say anything.
