Default Wanted to pray but Church doors were locked...

Well not really.... the praying part I meant.

Just wanted to go inside to take a look at the inside of the Church.... but all the doors were locked. It was about 7:00 pm on a Wednesday.

But I could have wanted to go in there just to pray... I am Catholic (lapsed but still a catholic).... just saying ya know.... they don't know that I haven't attended mass in 5 years (last time was Christmas 2005... )

So..... when did they start locking the doors on churches?

Good question. I'm not religious in the slightest, but I always thought that churches had kind of a 24/7 open door policy.

That's a pretty cool looking church though. Not what you'd expect for smaller prairie city.

Meth heads would be trashing the place if it was open 24/7.

I think churches started locking doors when vandals started breaking in and looking for stuff to steal.

I can't think of any churches off hand that would be open 24/7 these days.

Is this one of those churches where the minister/priest lives inside? In addition to meth-heads, I have to imagine the homeless would be in there constantly. Perhaps not in small towns as much I suppose.

Helena Montana would be a tough town to be homeless in.

Helena MT has a population of about 25,000.

I doubt that meth-heads and vandalism is a huge problem... particularly during daylight hours. Just seemed strange that we have become so security conscious nowadays that even churches are locking their doors now to keep the riffraff out.

So what do you figure? They open up for mass and then immediately lock the doors afterward? Doesn't sound very Christian to me.

Maybe the priest was doing a private bible study with an alter boy(s) and they just wanted some privacy.

Crystal meth has been a huge problem in rural Alberta for years. Don't see why it couldn't be just across the border as well.

As far as I can tell, it's worse. At least judging by the large number of billboards dealing with the issue.

Its a sad reflection of today's society, that now even churches or as some call them "The House of God" are locking their doors to protect their properties from theft and vandalism and whatever else.

So sad. So many people out there must be lacking in any kind of moral fiber. To me, to steal from or vandalize a church ranks right up there with going into a cemetery and defacing/vandalizing grave markers... and we have all heard the stories about that.

... and I doubt this kind of behavior can all be attributed to "meth-heads". Most likely its the same kind of people who burn police cars in Toronto.... because its "fun".

You need to join the Church of Slurpee. It's icy cold and open 24/7!

What part of the bible forbids locking doors?

Or the recent news about some old lady getting sexually assaulted whilst visiting a cemetery.

Do you really think a church would be open 24 hours a day so anyone can walk in anytime they want? Seriously?
