Drinking soda linked to pancreatic cancer: Study - Edmonton Journal

Drinking soda linked to pancreatic cancer: Study - Edmonton Journal
Drinking two or more soft drinks a week may nearly double a person's risk of developing pancreatic cancer, researchers are warning.
The new study, by researchers from the University of Minnesota, was based on more than 60,000 men and women in the Singapore Chinese Health Study who were followed for 14 years. During that time, 140 people developed invasive pancreatic cancer. At the start of the study, as part of a food frequency questionnaire, people were asked to report how often they drank one glass of pop. A glass was considered 237 millilitres, or about the equivalent of one cup.
Those who reported drinking two or more soft drinks per week had an 87 per cent increased risk of pancreatic cancer compared to those who didn't drink soft drinks. The pop drinkers were averaging five drinks per week.

Interesting
My only nit picky thing is that the test group was averaging 5 drinks of pop a week, while the article title is more than 2. That makes a big difference in the results

The 'Coke' one just absolutely baffles me. I was so confused when I first met someone that referred to 7-up as coke.

I hate pop for the most part, but it just goes too well with rye, that's still good for the pancreas right?

Well they are wrong that map is pretty much my experience living in multiple parts of the country. NE and Cali is soda. South is Coke. Midwest is Pop. I call it all 3, but probably pop the least because everyone looks at me like I am crazy in Texas.

As a Canadian living in Virginia, I had no problem migrating to "soda". Was never a big fan of the word pop anyway. Soda rolls of the tongue a little nicer.
However, toque is a word I will always hold on to, even if no one knows what the hell I am saying. In fact my kids, who never even lived in Canada, will always wear a toque on their their head. They sure as hell are not going to tell anyone that they are wearing a toboggan on their head (I will never not lmao inside when I hear someone call a toque a toboggan, as they do in the south)!

Pancreatic cancer, here I come. I'm pretty sure I am single handedly responsible for the profitability of the Dr Pepper corporation.

I had no problem either. I like saying "soda" and after moving back to Canada it just stayed with me.
