Gord Baldwin
Alrighty, so when it comes to the Flames defence prospects most of us mention, Pelech, Erixon, Negrin, Brodie, Seabrook.
What about Gord Baldwin. (Born March, 1st, 1987)
On Friday (February, 6th 2010) he had both Heat goals in a 3-2 shootout win.
So far for the Heat this year in 39 games he has 2 goals, 15 assists and is a +9. (Currently leading the Heat's defence in points and +/-.
We drafted him 69th in the third round of the 2005 NHL entry draft.
Any other information anyone can provide would be awesome.
Does he have a shot of making the jump to the NHL?
*Baldwins first and second goals of the year were scored on Thrashers goalie Kari Lehtonen who is on a reconditioning assignment.

Sounds ok, but he's no Keith Aulie!
Honestly, was Aulie THAT good of a prospect? The Toronto media is making him out to be some stud blue chip prospect. He wasn't getting nearly this much attention when he was Flames property.

I'm pretty sure it was a Heat loss but whos counting?
I noticed his stats are much better than the last two years.
I personally liked him better than most of the defencemen in QC last year.

The Heat won in a shootout on Friday.
Quote:
Nine shooters from both sides participated in the shootout before the HEAT won on a Colin Stuart backhand. HEAT goaltender David Shantz stopped Wolves’ forward Spencer Machacek to record the win. Evan Barlow and Garth Murray also scored for the HEAT in the shootout.

Baldwin is making a strong push to be our 7th guy next year. His game this year is very solid and he has started to bring on the offense as well. The kid is 6'5, and he was much more defensively sound than Aulie ever was (although Aulie was 3 years younger).
I like him.

Yeah, I always wondered about this kid. He always seems to fly under the radar despite being an earlier draft pick than Aulie (different years). The only knock I ever heard on him was his skating, but I haven't seen him play in a couple years.

IIRC, coming out of junior he was pretty highly thought of. Baldwin and Pelech were going to be our twin towers but they both have taken a little while to grow into their bodies with Baldwin spending time in the ECHL. Glad to hear he's now shining and with the loss of Phaneuf and the declining play of Sarich, we may need another physical type guy (him or Pelech) with the big club next season.

I liked Baldwin a lot last year. I've been too busy watching the Flames to pay attention this year.
That's Baldwin doing the pounding in my avatar.

He's tall but still lanky.
How is his skating last year? I had fear that his 'ok' skating was going to be really hampered by the knee injury he got last year in camp.

He looks alright this year. Nothing special in the skating front. Probably similar to Sarich when he is actually playing well (sarich I mean).

Also, I just love saying 'Big Gord Baldwin'.
Really rolls off the tongue.
"Shum kind of a play by Big Gord Baldwin.'
That would be neat.

Baldwin is on quite a bit of a tear of late points wise anyways. 3 G 3 A 6 PTS in the last 4 games.

Man I keep accidently coming into this forum thinking its the 'Off Topic' as it is the third one down. Definitely thought this thread was going to be about some random Baldwin brother.
