So I'm gettin' hitched June 30th, then going on a Honeymoon for 14 days starting on the 3rd week in August. We want to fly into Nice, and fly home from Rome. I lived near Nice for 5 months, so I know a fair bit about that area, but I've never been to Italy. We enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and swimming, etc. as well as cultural/historical places. I was thinking of maybe seeing wineries, chateaux, ruins, cheese...factetc. We will be White water swimming (Hydrospeed they call it - do it if your ever in Provence) early in the trip near Nice, then all bets are off. I'd like to fit Venice in too.
We might rent a car or take transit. Whatever works
I don`t know much about Tuscany, I skipped it when I was in Italy.
However I would Look into Cinque Terre which is on the way to Tuscany from Nice. It is better that you google it yourself, but it could satisfy your Hiking/swimming needs and it is convieniently on the way.
14 days isn`t a ton of time to fit everything in.
Up in the Venice/Milan direction you start to get into some beautiful lake areas with natural springs and such.
You can spend an eternity in Rome, but at that time of the year it will be sweltering, but on the plus side, it could be less busy.
This is probably short sighted of me but I don`t really care that much about the renaissance, so I skipped Florence. I figured aside from the renaissance, I could get much of the same from Rome.
As the old saying goes, if you try to see too much, you may end up seeing nothing at all.
All I can really recommend is Cinque Terre and Rome. However someone who has actually been in Rome in august may have a better perspective.

I don't know where you are staying but I think you would be able to get away with just finding a wifi hotspot if you ever needed to check something or anything of the sort. If you bring a laptop or a tablet or something like that along I think that you will be just fine. Anyway I am sure you can find better things to do on your honeymoon than check CP or stock prices.

I'm thinking I'll be using smartphones a lot for "Navigation" (that's code word for pron).
You know, need to find a hotel/ tourist attraction, etc, so I use "Navigation" right there on the street while my fiancé thinks I'm finding a hotel. Hot, hot, freaky "Navigation"
