District 9 was good. But I don't think it was BP good.

The academy deciding to go from 5 noms for Best Picture to 10 is a complete sham. Nice to see District 9, Up and The Blind Side get nominated, but it's a blatant ploy by the Academy to increase the number of people who watch the event. Takes a lot of credibility away from the movies that should truly be there.

D9 was my favorite movie of last year. It will never win though. Some movie I haven't see or even heard of will likely win. Actualy, as long as "Basterds" doesn't win, I'll be relatively happy. Do you think Tarantino would erect a statue of himself on the crucifix and reffering to himself as "GOD" in the third person if he does end up winning? Man, I hate that guy.

i hope they go away from the format of having past nominees talk about the current nominees from last year. I like seeing the clips of the movie instead

IMO the Razzies would seem somewhat illegitimate for not nominating what I considered to be the all-around worst movie of 2009, the Ashton Kutcher debacle Spread. This film should clean up every major category, but is conspicuously absent.

Regarding the Oscar nominations, I must say I am intrigued to see Up get so much attention. Best Animated Picture AND Best Picture? It was a really nice little movie, but why the redundancy?

same thing happened at the Golden Globes with The Incredibles. The redundancy is because obviously if it is one of the best overall movies of the year its one of the best animated movies.

I really don't get the District 9 love. It was fresh for sure, and it was a good movie. I was entertained, but.... It was a nightmare of a plot line with gaping holes and events that made you scratch your head and wonder, what were they thinking?

Nowhere close to being BP material IMO.

I always feel like a bit of a tool if I say something should win when I haven't seen all of the nominees. Out of the 10 BP nominees, I have seen these:

Avatar
The Hurt Locker
District 9
Inglorious Basterds
Up

For me, Inglorious Basterds was far and away the best of those 5, but I don't think it is BP worthy either!

Really looking forward to seeing Up In The Air and A Serious Man.

I actually like the 10 nominees for BP because it adds a whole new voting dynamic and makes it a little more unpredictable. This year was weak in terms of movies so it is pretty unfortunate that the change happened this year. I'm surprised that The Blind Side got nominated for BP...I've heard really good things about Star Trek so I thought it might be nominated instead. The Hangover was another one that could have been nominated.

Having 10 films for BP would have been great for last year - there were plenty of films that deserved nominations including The Wrestler and The Dark Knight but were excluded.

I saw Up in The Air and A Serious Man. Both were good but Up in the Air was more entertaining. A Single Man should have definitely garnered BP support. It was fantastic. Firth and Julianne Moore were excellent as was the score and editing.

The Redundacy is because there are 10 Nominations for BP this year as opposed to 5 in past years.

They picked the worst possible year to introduce 10 BP Noms. It was a horrible year for movies and I would have had a hard time picking 5!

IMHO, Any one of the following movies:

-Inglorious Basterds
-Avatar
-The Blind Side
-An Education

could easily be removed from the list of BP nominations, and replaced with "The Road".

Can't wait to see that. Has anyone seen Crazy Heart? Thoughts?

I saw both of those and feel the same way about them as you do about Inglorious Basterds -- they were entertaining enough, but not something BP worthy.

In fact, I'd say I feel that way about the whole list, but something's gotta win, so I'd probably pick Inglorious.

Crazy Heart = Hard to "Find".

I've been hearing such good things about it too, looking forward to seeing it.

I have a feeling it's the 2010 version of "The Wrestler".
