How good is airport security again?
Here's a fun one.

Displaying what turned out to be a pellet gun, Denny reportedly handcuffed Hibbard's wife, Cherrie Belle, and told the couple she was being deported, Wisehart said. Denny allegedly drove Belle, 28, to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection station in Murrieta.
When he was told there was no warrant for her in the computer system, Denny apparently returned to the couple's house and instructed her husband to purchase a ticket for her online to her home country, Wisehart said.
Police were told Denny drove the woman to San Diego International Airport, where he flashed his fake badge to get through security. He allegedly escorted her to the departure gate, uncuffed her and watched her board a plane to San Francisco en route to Manila, where she remains.

So I can't bring a second carry-on bag but some guy with a fake badge gets through security with a gun?

WOW ... there was just a story in oklahoma were a foreign guy has been on rides , in the system of a local PD. He befriend the officers and said he was an officer in Germany.. It ended up being a bad deal when someone finally checked him out 3 or 4 weeks later. Some people are just to lazy to check stuff which makes security practically useless

Not too surprised. Have you seen some of the folks who work at airport security around North America? Not the sharpest knives in the cupboards by any means.

This article does mention about the gun. I originally heard the story on the radio.

The police chief in the above article also concerns me. If someone gets through a checkpoint with a gun (even if it's a pellet gun) their next plan isn't necessarily to also force themselves on a plane. At that point they could just hide the gun wherever, buy a ticket and get on. Not too difficult.

People keep knives in cupboards?
I just flew from Calg-Atlanta, and if anyone is traveling right now have fun. Something must have come down the ol' security pipeline, because they're searching all carry ons, and about 80% of the people going through are getting a secondary pat down.
I flew to Vegas the other week, and security is twice as bad now as what it was then.

The security must have been too busy hassling me because I accidentally had two bic lighters in my jacket pocket, which exceeded the 1 that is allowed. I will admit though, I was flying to the terrorist hot spot of Fort McMurray so I can see why it was a big deal...

You should not be allowed to take a lighter on a plane. Period.

No I think training the agents that work airport security similar to the way Israel trains their agents might actually benefit all of us.
But hey lets just raise the alert level and make some more stupid laws.
And renew the Patriot Act for another year. Win/win for everyone.

How about matches? A steel, flint and batting? A really strong magnifying glass? Just curious as to where you think the line should be.

When I was returning from my Vegas vacation back in October I had just passed through security and was putting my shoes back on, when I looked up and saw a couple of security agents looking over a hand gun... which was actually a lighter. They were trying to talk to the guy who owned the gun lighter but he didn't speak english. I decided I didn't want to stick around to see what happened and went to wait at my gate while they were trying to find somebody who spoke the idiot's language.

There was a written bomb threat found on a Denver-San Francisco flight. Flight was diverted to Salt lake City. The 200 people on board are being investigated and re-screened.
There was also a guy who crashed his four seater into an IRS building in Austin today.

You really have to ask?
Nobody should be allowed to take ANYTHING used to MAKE FACKING FIRE on a FICKING AIRPLANE.
