Have you been to Schanks South?
Just wondering what your experience was like. I went there last night.
How old are you?
Did they require a credit card to have a tab?
Will they seperate your tab?
How was your service out of 10?
I really get the feeling they treat young people differently than more "seasoned" patrons. Here are my answers:
How old are you? - 24
Did they require a credit card to have a tab? - For us, yes.
Will they seperate your tab? - She said she "can't" on busy nights
How was your service out of 10? - 2/10. Waitress had to be flagged to come over multiple times, was not friendly, didnt tell us her name, would not make a tab and we were really sketchy because she wanted a CC... dont get that anywhere else, and because we didnt wanna give our card, she made us pay cash and carry- yet did not provide change.
It really annoys me that I work very hard for my money and I just cant get a break when I go out. I dont want to worry about this kind of thing when i go out to have fun with buddys.
I think they treat "young people" differently.

I'm not too surprised she did cash and carry, mostly because of the size and desire for people to walk around and do other things in a place like schanks. The other thing is I would assume she does cash and carry or asked for a credit card because she's been burned a few times. And the name isn't a big deal, I find it tacky when they come up and say "Hi my name's Misty, I'll be your waitress tonight" that feels like something you get at Chotchkie's with their flair.

Haven't been there in years but remember it being like this with the cash and carry. Agree with ma-skis about the walk around nature of Shanks, and suspect that's why they do it.
Clearly they've been burned a lot so have made it their policy to take a CC and/or do cash and carry. Not a big deal IMO, but she should have been polite at least.

Fair enough about the name thing.
But anyways, my original question is basicall how old are you and were you asked for a credit card?

I can't think of many bars that will let you start a tab without giving them a CC....

I can understand maybe at a chaotic club on a Friday or something, but I've never seen this at any other pub.

^^Regardless of age they ask for a credit card.
I go there for flames games with my friends quite often and we have to give a card each time even though we are "regulars".
Oh and we are all 33 and above
Don't worry, you are not being discriminated against. Shanks is just notoriously crappy for their wait staff.

Who are these "young people" you speak of? Kids drinking milk out of bottles and crapping in diapers?

I was considering myself young... not sure how you misread that, lol! But yeah, I would consider babies young too. Wouldn't you?
I dont think i'm going to go there anymore. They just suck That projector was replaced for the HUGE tv, which is cool... but I've just never had a good experience there.

Did they require a credit card to have a tab? - Yes, they ask every single time.
Will they seperate your tab? - Nope, this really bugs me. It's not that difficult. Pain in the ass. If I ask them to separate it and they say "no", I usually just threaten to go to the bar to order my drinks. They want the tips, so they'll usually cave and agree to separate the tab. The key is asking before you order.
How was your service out of 10? - It's pretty consistently between 1/10 and 3/10 when I go to Schanks. I find most of the wait staff to be quite rude.

I'm not a huge FlamesCentral fan either. But I've never been to Shanks for a game either. They comparable?

Yeah, I completely misread that... I thought you were implying they were giving preferential treatment to the 18-23 year old crowd. Sorry.

Why do you keep going back there? I haven't been there in years -- is there something special that makes you ignore consistently awful service and keep going back?

How old are you? -39
Did they require a credit card to have a tab? - Never
Will they seperate your tab?- Sometimes. Never at the 2:00 warning on Monday Night Football
How was your service out of 10? Anywhere from 1-9. Very hit and miss with the wait staff; but the same goes for any pub.

Did they require a credit card to have a tab? No. I've never to do this.
Will they seperate your tab? Only ever asked once, and had no problems with them splitting it, even at the end when we hadn't previously asked.
How was your service out of 10? For the last time 8.5. Service was a tad slow, but was pretty good overall. I've been on other nights and it's been mediocre, but never Dixon's bad.

The service pretty much always sucks there whenever I go. I've also been IDed at the door quite a few times and been turned away when I forgot my license. Which is a bit ridiculous because I'm 27 so it's pretty obvious I'm "legal". The IDing at the door business is also something that basically never happens at any other pubs that I've been to.

I'm not defending the place, but they're just saving their ass. If I ran a bar and you couldn't show ID, you're not getting in. If the cops come, you're drinking and don't have ID, it is basically a red flag that the establishment didn't ID before serving.

ID at the door makes sense, again due to their layout and the way people walk around, play pool, go to the arcade etc.
You can't just ID at a table, because not everyone is even going to get a table. This saves them from having to ID at the bar everytime someone orders a drink.
