His litter box is in the closet of our guest room, because we live in a condo and dont have a "storage" room or a garage...
Anyways, he ripped out that "filter" thing that was at the top of his litter box, so obviously that's gotta be replaced, but aside from that we've tried:
- Non-smelling kitty litter, which basically just smells like lysol and baby powder, and when you smell it you just think you're smelling his ass anyway
- Baking soda, which didnt seem to do s***
- Febreeze air effects, which is supposed to "eliminate" odors, but again my house smells like air freshener...
Now I heard there's this sponge thing you can buy from Co-op that comes in what looks like a margarine container. Anyone try this yet? Any other suggestions? Does that little "filter" thing really make a big difference?
Maxx Brand Cat Litter. I have two cats and a small apartment and it works great, although I use the multi-cat version. DO NOT get the non-clumping kind. ALWAYS buy clumping litter.
Clean the damn box! I can usually go a week without cleaning it and it doesn't smell. Take out the lumps and add a bit of fresh litter. Every three or four weeks do a complete change.
I just thought of another thing... how much litter do you put in it? Has to be at least an inch at the bottom of the box. I usually do 1.5-2 inches.

Id suggest cleaning it more frequently. Scoop daily or every two days. Change litter every two weeks. And add some litter in the week in between changing the litter completely.
It shouldnt smell at all if you follow that and the cats appreciate a clean litter box.
We also put a few inches of litter. The cats like to dig. Costco has a good price on litter although theyve recently changed the brand and Im not positive the cats like the new stuff as much. And yeah, clumping for sure.

If you have a cat, you are a homo. A cat is like a
dog, but queer -- it grooms itself constantly but never
scratches itself, has a delicate touch except when it uses
its claws and whines to be fed...
And just think about how you call a dog... 'Killer, come here!
I said get your ass over here, Killer!' Now think
about how you call a cat...'Bun-bun, come to daddy,
snookums!' Jeeez you're so queer.

Yes but I'm lazy. I know I should do it more.

Before I got rid of my last cat the smell of his litter was driving me nuts. That stank box actually helped make the decision to unload him a little easier.
If you want to spend the cash, maybe get one of those electric boxes that rakes out the poo/pee after each use. I think they're over $200 but if your place smells like crap it's probably worth it.
Feed your cat better food. The smell gets way better.
Just like when I spend a day eating deepfried delicacies at the Stampede vs. after eating a bunch of steamed vegetables. I know which crap I'd rather keep in a box in my bedroom closet.

I have two Siamese cats that I am fairly certain would tear "Killer" to shreds or any other dog.

What kind of animals sell non clumping cat litter? I have half a mind to call the Better Business Bureau
