Default Home repair help

Hey gang, looking to tap the vast CP database here. So it appears everything in my house has decided to start breaking at once. Do you have any advice or recommendations on who to contact / how to fix for each of the following issues? I'm totally lost here short of just hitting the yellow pages and having to line up a hundred quotes at totally random times.

1) Dryer broke. It still tumbles, but it doesn't make heat and the timer doesn't work so it just tumbles until you manually stop it.

2) Window cracked. It's an odd shaped triangular window.

3) Skylight leaked. This is the biggie. Its left a brown stain on the ceiling and water leaked down the wall behind the paint. Of course it had to be the one curved piece of drywall in the house as you come down the stairs.

4) I dropped a can of black paint (duh) but managed to keep the spill to a 3'x3' section of carpet at the bottom landing of the stairs into my unfinished basement - stair on one side, baseboard on two, and that metal transition piece to the concrete pad in my basement on the fourth. Should be a super easy job for anyone who knows what they're doing. I more than enough replacement carpet stashed downstairs.

Thanks for any help...

1. Buy ken0042 or prototype's dryers they have for sale. Or replace the element and timer in yours, which probably isnt cheap, but if you call Trail Appliances, they have a parts counter you can get a quote. My guess its probably just as much to repair yours as it will be to buy one used. Not sure what your budget is, but TA is has a really good deal on an Amana laundry set right now.
2. Not a huge deal for now, but call around to any glass shop, they most likely can replace it for you, or know a company that will. Much easier to replace the glass than the whole window. Its not that hard of a job.
3. This is something you dont want to leave. Call around now to either some roofing companies or skylight places. This is something you dont want to mess around with, since it will not get better. Unfortunately, this is a bad time of year to do these kinds of repairs.
4. I work with a guy who does this on the side. I'll contact him monday and see if he's interested.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Actually- it's a washer I have for sale right now- so check with Prototype.

Which is too bad- last year when I was selling my dryer I let it go for next to nothing. I would have rather it gone to somebody I know.

You could try to put some fresh caulk around the skylight, it might stop the leak. As far as the water damage/stain, clean it the best you can with a solution of bleach and water. Then use Killz on it before repainting so the stain won't reappear.

I had a leak in the corner of my den ceiling that left a stain on the wall. I cleaned up the stain and painted over it but the stain kept coming back, eventually with mold. After cleaning it and putting a prime of Killz on it, the stain never returned.

Opened the dryer up, found the wiring diagram, grabbed my multimeter and immersed myself in nerdery. Found the problem...main heater coil burned out. Check #1 off the list.

I feel like a champ right now.

That's not nerdery, that's manliness.
