Default Buying Dress Shirt in Calgary?

Hey all, I'm looking for a good store to buy dress shirts in the Calgary area.. I'm living in the NW and will probably go as far as downtown for a good one.

I'm looking for a fairly dressy dress shirt, not one you'd wear to work everyday. Also, I'd prefer to have one in a solid pastel-ish colour, not required though. I also like the dress shirts that have those really stiff collars, those are pretty nice.

If anyone has any suggestions on good stores or good individual shirts that'd be awesome!

I recommend Harry Rosen, it essentially sells the same brands as Holt but doesn't charge as much as Holt typically does. That all being said a shirt that you'd be looking for would still run you between $150 and $300 there.

I get my shirts custom made in Hong Kong. The tailor travels to Calgary every couple of months. You go pick out the fabric, they measure you, and you get your shirts in the mail in less than a month. With the high end fabrics they end up costing about $100 each and fit perfectly.

Hm, that's interesting. What are the details exactly? I hope these shirts don't have LV print on them.

When does the guy typically come in? I'd be very interested in this.

+1 for Harry Rosen.

I also go to Moores for less priced shirts - still good quality IMO.

The above poster is probably referring to Maxwell Clothiers. I am a big advocate. I have 12+ shirts, pants and one suit done by them and highly recommend them. He comes every 6 months with the fabrics and what not. You have to pay duty but the prices are very affordable. You can get 3 dress shirts for $150 plus about $12 in duty. They take about 8 weeks to arrive.

Also, once you are measured you can order online and don't have to wait for him to come to your city. I have yet to do this as I prefer seeing the fabric in person before purchasing it.

I wear golf shirts and casual slacks to work every day.

I so don't miss the days when I used to have wear dress shirts and dress pants and ties and suits.... plus the money I would have to spend to buy this stuff and weekly dry cleaning expenses....

Golf shirts rock!

O'connors on 1st st is having their Janurary sale right now. Lots of nice dress shirts available. I just picked up a handful myself.

An alternative to Maxwells is the tailored man

FTW - if you end up buying in the store... go spend the extra $15 it takes to get the shirt taken in so its fitted. The difference is tremendous.

I usually go get my dress shirts from MEXX, Moores, and/or RW & Co.

Since you're looking for something beyond every day wear, I suggest Supreme Men's Wear. My brother got some dress shirts from there awhile ago and they look great.

Thanks for all the input, the custom made shirts intrigue me. But there are a lot of good suggestions here, so I've gotta do some research.

So for a nice quality one, $100-150 is a good range?

Buy now!!

This is the time of year where retailers are discounting heavily.

I see signs right now of 50 to 70 percent sale prices in most stores in TD Square dontown.

It won't last forever.
