What's on your walls?
I've been in my house now since May and I still haven't put anything on the walls. I live alone and don't put much effort into decor of any kind but I'm starting to think it looks a little bare. I know I don't really like still life, pictures of animals, or boring things like that.
What do you have and where did you get it?

Good post. I was just looking at my walls too. There's absolutely nothing on them either.
But I suppose the big question is what is your budget?
Mine is essentially 0 or very low so... something along those lines.

I have tons of prints, and mirrors all over the place in my house. Basically anything that you think is nice, or would compliment the furniture in your rooms is what you should go for. For example, in the room I'm in, the furniture is more modern/french in it's lines (softer lines more curvy with blacks and beiges) The artwork that's on the walls have darker beige colour wood, with a very light creamy beige matting with an interesting leaf/apple or pear design in the middle. The design of the pictures is very french in theme, so it helps to balance the furniture in the room.
Where to get those items, you'd basically have to shop around. Lots of stores, like home outfitters and winners sell pictures etc, but I find that the smaller shops tend to have the more unique and interesting things. It all really depends on your price point and what you find interesting.

I have no idea what is expensive or what people typically pay. I guess I'd like to have some framed things. My only point of reference is art.com and it looks like something framed is probably going to start at around $150. They say their prices are the lowest. Is that just high end quality or can I spend less?

I agree with the idea of mirrors. They are cheap and can often make your room look bigger.

My wife is an artist and we have a boat load of paintings sitting in our garage that we would love to sell for very reasonable prices. Pretty much anything and everything. PM me if you would like to come by and see her work.

Looking at what's on Art.com, it's more or less equivalent to what you'd find at a winners/home outfitters. From taking a more indepth look at their items, they are rather overpriced for what you're getting. If you shop around, you'll find pictures of equal to or better quality for less.

I personally rather just leave my walls bare. If I had to decorate for some reason I would go to a couple showhome's to see how they did it and get ideas from that. Or else maybe a collection of beer glasses on top of a fireplace or something along those lines.

Im the same as the OP, moved out on my own since May and had nothing on my walls for the longest time. I now have a picture of Bob Dylan and Andy Warhol on the wall. Its the ones with a quote on them to help keep me inspired. I got them as a gift and Im sure they were from "Where its Art"

My wife is an artist, and I can tell you from personal experience that proper framing (especially wood) and matting is expensive.

When I moved into my place I went on art.com and browsed the art deco and vintage sections. That the kind of stuff I like, so that's what I bought. I wouldn'r recommend just hanging bare posters on your walls, unless you don't care about the image thing. If you frame them or have them mounted they look alot better, but obviously there is a cost involved.
The other thing I did was browse sites like interfacelift.com and deviantart.com and basically download pictures people have posted and got them printed in 5"x7" or whatever and went to winners and bought some cheap frames all different kinds and hung those on the wall. They look pretty cool.
Also, Ikea has some huge prints for cheap. You can basically get one print with a frame for $50 and it covers a whole wall.
On the topic of framing, you can look at stores like Michaels or zellers or walmart and see what they have for premade frames. if you buy a poster, i would just find a frame to fit. if you get a frame custom made it's gonna be super expensive.
The other alternative is dry mounting. I had 3 large posters (32" x 24") dry mounted and they were about $90 to do each, but they look really nice.
I don't recommend where it's art. That place is just wayyyyyyyyyyyyy overpriced.

It's funny, because I woke up this morning and thought that my place is really bare. My living room has a large picture from Ikea of New York City, and in my dining room area there is another really large picture of NYC from Ikea. Other than that, my bedroom is completely bare, as is my other bedroom that I use for a workout room. I really have to get some pictures up.

All my wall art consists of my photos I have printed over the years and put into el cheapo Ikea frames. One of a kind and cheap. Always changing the photos as I take better ones.

In my bedroom I've got a couple framed pictures, one of the Hanson Brothers and one of Iginla...plus I've got a U2 poster from Vancouver that is currently falling off the wall. I should get it put in a frame or something.
Upstairs we don't really have room for art. Have a fireplace taking up the one corner of the living room and a sick disco ball hanging in the other corner. Oh I guess in the entry way I've put up a couple old Victoriaville hockey sticks and pucks.
I'd like to be able to afford some cool art, but alas, I cannot at this point. I don't wanna have a bunch of posters hung up either, cause I think it looks kinda ghetto. Perhaps I should follow your lead worth, and just print and frame stuff that I think looks cool.

My walls are pretty bare as well. I kinda like it that way but it's on my to do list for sure. Some hockey stuff for my tv room and some praire art for my office. Going to showhomes sounds like a good idea for ideas.

If you're a huge hockey fan, you can get some prints from that Hockey store @ Cross Iron Mills

I was just given a pretty sweet framed piece that has all the Beatles studio albums on it. I can't remember where they said they got it but it was something like HomeSense or Bed,Bath and Beyond.
