Default Humane Society or Hoax?

Unpacking the HSUS Gravy Train

  1. The group collected over $86 million in contributions
  2. 41 HSUS employees made at least $100,000 last year. All told, HSUS paid out over $30.9 million in salaries, wages, and other employee compensation.
  3. We added up the totals, and HSUS gave only a little more than $450,000—that’s just half of one percent of its total budget—in grants to organizations providing hands-on care to dogs and cats.

One wonders, with Toronto's Humane Society's mistreatment of cats, what happens in Canada??

It seems like alot of these do-good organizations (M.A.D.D) are no different than any other profit-sponging corporation.....

Reading through the organization's mission statement on their website, nowhere do they claim to provide money to animal shelters; I haven't seen their ads so I don't know if they claim to in advertising, but it sounds like they're spending is more or less on what they claim to. They're a public awareness and lobbying organization, which means most of their budget is going to be spent on advertising. Like most similar organizations, I'd guess that they're bloated with unnecessary bureaucracy and completely inefficient.

Then again, it's telling that this article comes not from any sort of reputable publication, but from a public interest group that represents tobacco, meat and fast food producers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_...umer_Freedom); I'll wait until I see a more unbiased analysis of the HSUS figures before I rush to judgement. But it's typically better to provide donations to smaller, local organizations, so you have a better idea of where your money is going.

This is why religion is genius.

Your church doesn't have to pay taxes. Then you start some spinoff Christian charity that doesn't have to pay taxes, and also spreads your church to foreign lands increasing income.

Genius.

Probably better to just donate to a local shelter if you're so inclined. Or skip the donation and adopt a pet instead.
