So lets hear it. I am sure that almost everyone has something that happens to them on their daily commute that makes them want to go postal.

Mine: My commute is short, but every day, both directions, I get stuck behind somebody going 45 km/h. The speed limit is 60. Seriously, how hard/scary is it to drive 60 km/h!?! Normally I'd just brush it off but it happens EVERY day! I need to find a new route.

Second one is the stop at Timmy's. Without fail I get stuck behind somebody who takes 10 minutes to order a coffee and a muffin. What takes this long? Its frickin' coffee and muffins and doughnuts!! Whats the hold-up??!!

Oh ya, if I hear any more stuff about the lock out I am going to vomit, so thats why I'm starting this thread! :boh:

Within a month of moving to the country, my stress level had dropped astronomically and I attribute that entirely to not having to drive much in the city.

Now, obviously, if I'm stressed by other drivers then that's my problem but I guess that's who I am . . . . although I'm more patient as my age creeps higher. Or maybe its because I don't face the traffic on a daily basis.

Nothing gets my blood boiling while in the car more than listening to the latest tripe come out of Bruce Dowbiggen's mouth while he's on the Fan. If I ever go postal on the road - it will be because of that.

I 'commuted' for the first time in 5 years at about 7:15 from the south as I had to drop off at the airport and take the dog to daycare.

You people who do this every day are saints, I would definately live at least 5 years less if I had to do it.

Why do the bigger the vehicle the less likely the need to signal or shoulder check for a lane change.
The angrier a person gets the more likely they are to make a mistake. The bigger the vehicle, the more they feel invulnerable, so why should they bother signalling etc. I ride a motorcycle and try to avoid SUVs, minivans[distracted mothers], Volvos , drunks and other erratic drivers. Now that I live in a rural area I hate going to the big city.

It takes ~ALOT~ to get me stressed, however when driving and the car infront of me is going 10 below the limit (or more) is the one button that goes direct to the stress zone.

When by myself in the car I start yelling

I used to live at 11th &18th st. Every afternoon rush hour, I had the pleasure of driving 11th ave from McLeod to 18th west. It goes ok for the most part (especially if you know which lane to be in at which block) until 12th street. Half the traffic wants to turn north on 14, so the right lane backs up for 2 blocks.
Without fail, every single day, someone stays in the 2nd right lane all the way up to 14th, then stops & flips on their signal light. Of course, the people in the right lane are all saying "screw you pal, I waited for 5 minutes in the right lane & you want to cut in front of me? I don't think so"
So of course, the 2nd right lane doesn't move, which causes a bunch of honking & signalling & bird flipping.

I hate those people who will stop traffic because they are trying to cut in.

Everyone's always in such a hurry. I used to be like that. Then I was in an accident and decided it was time to drive more responsibly. So now I take it easy, let people in, don't get excited, and guess what? It probably only adds another 1-2 minutes to my daily commute.

My favourites are the idiots who buzz me on my bicycle as I ride to work. I'm as far right as I'm going to go, pass me at the next opportunity and stick your horn where the sun don't shine......

I used to ride mine through Downtown, and to avoid near fatalities I would take up a full lane. Screw 'em, I'm not going to let some jackass take me out because he's late for work. It drove people NUTS when I did it, although I was more than keeping up with traffic. I think there's some inherant mentality that bicycles can't POSSIBLY go faster than cars, and people would seriously lose their mind trying to pass me.

If someone is going 15 under the speed limit then pass them, problem solved. Don't sweat the small stuff man! Or maybe you are worried about being late for work, so leave a few minutes earlier.

Haha! I know I know. Its just that it always happens on the stretch of the road that narrows to 2 lanes, eliminating my chances to pass.

My single greatest pet peeve on the roads are people who are too ignorant to merge properly. Specifically on the weave lanes between 16th and Memorial, and Beddington and 64th. People need to learn that just because they are simply getting on Deerfoot long enough to get from 16th to Memorial they dont have the right to do 60KPH the whole way though. There are people behind them trying to merge with traffic doing 40KPH faster because of these idiots.

Related to that is people that drive too slow. I've always believed that speeding itself isnt necessaraly the problem, but the differential in speeds that is the problem. A jackass doing 20KPH below the going rate of traffic is just as dangerous as a jackass doing 20KPH above the going rate of traffic, IMNSHO.

Just a side note relating to your speed variations comments. The wife and I drove to Montreal for a vacation last year and when we got into Quebec, we noticed some wicked speed differences while driving along the highway. After a while we noticed the speed limit signs. They have a minimum speed of 65 and a max speed of 100 so you have people doing both speeds on the same highway. It was NUTS!

i ride the bus and or subway pretty much everyday and there is nothing more annoying then some annoying trendy biyach talking on her cellphone for the whole fricking ride. Not only are these Carrie Bradshaw wannabees loud, they also talk about the most assaninine stuff that the rest of us have to put up with.

It is awful. I can't stand cellphones, even though I have one, but is it that hard to shut your yap for a few minutes and realize that there are other people on a bus with you? Why does the bus have to suddenly become the gossip couch? listening to two-way conversations on the bus is one thing, but when it's some stupid ho whining about her boss or boyfriend to her equally moronic girlfriends on the other end, i cant stand it.

I rue the days my ipod runs out of batteries before I get home.

The one time I was involved in a "road rage" situation, it was pretty humorous. A lady cut me off pretty outrageously, and I didn't gesticulate wildly or mouth any loving words in her direction. She must've seen me shake my head in her rear-view mirror, because she slammed on her brakes, almost causing me to hit her. We continued on for a while, then she abruptly swerved to the right and slammed on her brakes again so I could pull up beside her. This was on a single lane road, so it was a dangerous manoeuvre. I could see her almost frothing at the mouth as she cussed me out in a most unladylike fashion. I did my best to ignore her - for about one minute this went on - but I broke out laughing. This enraged her, and she sped off, unfortunately for her, through a playground zone. A cop pulled her over, and I did my best to keep a straight face as I drove past. I would've loved to hear the story she told Calgary's finest.

I swear husbands by their trophy whores these massive cars because they know they are terrible drivers.
no offense to the girls in here, but from my experience, the bigger the SUV, the dumber the woman behind the wheel.

Before construction began at deerfoot & douglasdale blvd, there was a large shoulder on the right hand side from barlow to douglasdale blvd. Like a normal person, I'd merge into traffic & wait my turn. Inevitably, at least 10 people would drive all the way down the shoulder to the point where a turning lane develops, then flick on their signal light & wait for some idiot to let them in. That drove me crazy.
I'm not sure who p*ssed me off more, the people who did the deed or the people who let these guys in.
I called the city & complained, and they put up some plastic hurdle type things one day. The next day, all of them had been bounced into the ditch.

I can understand driving all the way up to the front of a lane that cuts out & expecting people to let you in. In fact, thats the way it should be done. But driving in the shoulder to cut in front of people who have been waiting for a few minutes is downright assholish.

A bunch of commuting peeves, most on the train.

Among them, but not limited to them:

Cellphones - CT should figure a way to charge people using cellphones when on the train 5$ for the first minute, $4 per minute after that. Put the funds into buying more trains/buses.

Because
a) There's no reason for anyone to be calling you at 7am, unless its an emergency.

b)The ride home - Its not the long conversations so much as the "I'll be at Heritage in 10 minutes" BS calls. They usually take 3 attempts because the idiots start the call just before going into a tunnel and then stare at thier phone dumfounded like the numbers are Russian for the 45 seconds....and of course the line "Sorry, I got cutoff, I went through a tunnel"

People who wear backpacks on their back on a crowded train.

People who go into personal details about their night/weekend or talk about thier family/roomate....so that everyone within 20 feet can hear loud and clear for the full 35 mins.

I'll be glad to move from years of trains to an express bus in 2 short weeks.

Driving: The usual. Poor merging, and in general, people who are basically oblivious to whats going on around them and how their disregard for anyone on the road is affecting those around them... or having even a sniff of anticiaption of whats going on ahead.
