Default Best Treadmill around $1000

Just wanted to check with the CP faithful to gather advice for purchasing a treadmill. I have done some research online but would like to gather some info from people who actually use these things

I am looking to spend around $1000. I don't mind spending a bit more if the machine warrants the extra money.

THanks in advance.

I've never seriously looked into them, but I always thought the way to go would be to buy a used commercial model. I can't stand running on the home/hotel type models. Even the older model commercial treadmills are way more solid than anything they sell for the home.

Something like this:

Rent it first for a few months.... and then after that time if you are still using it and you like it, buy it.

Here's a place that rents equipment and will apply the rental fee towards the purchase price.

Nfotiu is right. If you're not going to spend the money and get a commercial grade one (even if its used), don't bother as you'll be wasting your money. Home-grade treadmills are always super rickety because of the subpar construction, so chances are eventually you'll get sick of it and it will sit there gathering dust. I can show you a basement full of proof if you're interested....

You probably have to up your budget, buy a used commercial one, or spend the money on a gym membership.

Just bought a Horizon CT5.1 from Canadian Tire for $549.99. That price is 65% off the regular price! Take off $300 I wasn't expecting from my Grandfather for Christmas and a combination of my health spending account and my wife's health spending account and we got a $1600 treadmill for free!

... now to find the space to put the thing.

Click here for a link to the machine.

It depends on how much you use it. If you use one every day, then $1,000 isn't going to get you a tread mill that's going to last. If you use it for 1/2 hour a couple of times a week, then maybe you can get away with a $1,000 tread mill.

Run outside. It's way more fun. Cold weather is no problem if you buy the right technical clothing. There's been exactly one day so far this winter I ditched a scheduled running day because of the cold.

Anyway, almost all of the department store treadmills are made by the same company and they're all junk. I spent a lot of money and many hours this year reconditioning my $1000 Costco treadmill, replacing both the motor and the belt due to problems with belt catching and slipping. What a PITA. And I've only used it a handful of times since then, preferring to run outside instead. I would say, pay the drop in fee at the Rec Centre for those days you think you absolutely must use a treadmill.

If you DO own one of these department store treadmills, make sure you lube it regularly as per manufacturer's instructions, but use the right lube as there are 2 types and using the wrong one may wreck your belt. (Canadian Tire is the only place that sells the lube you need for the cheapo treadmills.)

If you're set on it, here is a department store treadmill that might be worth buying, judging by the HP rating and 375 lb weight rating:
