Color me impressed. NFS has been my favorite racing franchise ever since Hot Pursuit. This game looks sick!!
This game is different in a couple of ways. First, your view from inside the car is supposed to be very realistic. The camera view reacts the way your head would to accelleration, turns, g-force, braking, etc etc. When drifting you can turn your head to view where you are trying to go and perfect your movement.
Secondly, the AI has been re-thought from the ground up. They found that in almost all racing games the AI are perfect drivers.. in this game, the drivers make mistakes, crash on their own, etc. You can make them nervous by tailing them and they will be more likely to make mistakes. You can intimidate them by hitting them, and they will come back and get revenge!
All in all, this game looks absolutely WICKED. Can't wait.

I've been thinking about getting another car game for my PS3. But they all look similar and I'm never sure which one is worth buying so I haven't yet. I got Gran Turismo Prologue when I first got my PS3 at Christmas and it is alright but I got kind of bored with it.
NFS: Shift looks like it might be worth waiting for.
A little off topic but... is it worth getting a wheel for these type games? I found things a little finiky with the controller. My problem is I don't really have a table or anything down by the PS3 to attach the wheel to.
Is the game still going arcade racer, or will it be a sim racer (GT, Forza). It seems like it is a Sim racer, which would be a good addition, but may scare away the casual race fan.
It does look pretty good and I like their approach to the AI. I hate in Forza 2 how every driver is the exact same, no one makes mistakes, and who ever has the more powerful car wins (if you simmed it). I hope the people at Take 10 are taking a similar approach.

I forgot to mention this. It is meant for anyone to be able to pick up and play, which is wicked. I hate steep learning curves. However, for the pure racing sim fan, it has an advanced mode (i forget what it's called) that should quench that thirst.

It is ABSOLUTELY worth it. I condsider a driving wheel a requirement for driving games. I have the Logitech G25 predecesor, so I would probably get the G25 now. Gran Turismo is 4 times the game with a wheel. The more real the racing game, the more fun it is with a driving wheel.
I just attach my wheel to a fold-up card table when I am playing. It is cheap and does the trick. However, now that I am in my new place with much more room, I may get one of those racing seats.

Sounds interesting. I still won't get it, I will be getting Forza 3, but it does look like a step-up from the previous games.

Those racing seats look kinda cool but probably a little hardcore for me. Besides I'm pretty sure my wife would bug the crap out of me if I got one of those.
This game comes out next week. Anyone looking forward to it? Normally I wouldn't think twice about not getting a Need for Speed game after that last few monstrosities however this one looks promising. I've been watching the trailers/gameplay movies and the game looks pretty cool. My only concern is that will there be a chance to drive normal cars or will all of the cars have sponsor decals everywhere.
there is one article, Im trying to find another one I read. NFS shift is made by Slighty Mad games they gave them a shot instead of Blackbox who started the NFS franchise 1994-2008. After this game Criterion will have total control, actually they have the next NFS under development already.
Just read IGN's review and they gave it a 9, first time since NFS underground 2. This NFS game might actually be good.
too bad they went away from the street racing aspect, track racers are so boring. Most Wanted is still the best in the series, and one i still play regularly
I agree hemi, track racers are incredibly dull and boring to me. they just feel so lifeless, I'm mostly a street and off road racer.
Can anyone confirm that Shift is 100% circuit racing? If so and it has absolutely no street racing ill pass.
"Let me step back a little bit before delving into the racing experience. NFS Shift returns to the track-based racing of old (and ProStreet) rather than the open-world stuff seen in most of the modern titles."
They sound very positive. After looking at the flyers as of Friday it appears as though it'll be at a $69.99 price point around Calgary. I haven't got the Walmart flyer (I never seem to anyways).
