Default Lg cl11...

Any thoughts about the LG CL11 HDTV? Full 1080p LCD, but a ty 60 Hz vertical refresh rate.

I bought mine yesterday for $700 and I'm not sure how I feel about it. When watching Bluray or playing most games its fine but when playing a game like FIFA where its little things moving around fast it gets kind've blurry.

I'm almost compelled to return it but I keep comparing to TV's for much more $$$ which I don't have.

Basically, is there any better deal I can expect if I return it? I mean I don't want anything under 40" and can only spend like max $800.

Whats the refresh rate in ms? If it is really high like +10ms, that might be the reason. But on my dads LCD tv I never noticed any blurryness while playing NHL or any other xbox game.

5.

It's not that bad but it is noticeable. I'm not really asking why its blurry more if theres any other options in that price range? I mean is it worth returning? Or should I just stick with a good deal.

I think the only other option in that price range is to consider going plasma

I couldn't find the specs for your CL11 but my guess is that this would be a better LG model. It's supposed to have a S-IPS panel, I've heard good reports on it's gaming ability and it's $800 if you can find one in store.

Refresh rate is always in Hz.

The blurriness is caused by response time. It has nothing to do with refresh rate.

Specs are here:

Super-IPS panel with 5ms response time should be decent but if you are gaming, a TN panel with 2ms response time might be better but that will sacrifice colors and image quality.

Some LCDs are close to plasma speed but none are better.

I really don't know why people buy LCDs. Lower response time, terrible black levels.

Plasmas are actually cheaper in terms of dollars per inch if not always providing the higher resolutions at the same pricepoint.

Plasmas displays use the same phosphors as CRT and have much better and more accurate color reproduction. Plasmas also are capable of displaying many more million colors than most fast response time LCDs. Plasmas have the potential to have 30 to 48-bit depth of color which is something like a billion to 281.5 trillion colors. Most LCDs sold for entertainment purposes need to have fast response times. These panels are invariable only capable of 6-bit color which is 262,144 colors.

Plasmas also have higher contrast and truer black levels and don't have CCFL or LED backlighting that will wash out blacks on images.

Cheap Plasma's are garbage these days though as anything 40" and 1080p is easily $1200. So the ones in my range are 720p and still develop Plasma burn.

Sorry, I meant response time, not refresh rate.

The only LCDs with 6-bit panels are most computer monitors and small cheap TVs up to 26", although a few manufacturers are slipping in these TN panels on a few 32" TVs now, so beware of what you are buying.

Most TVs are 8 or 10 bit panels (better colours and viewing angles) while giving a much better picture than a 6 bit panel, they do have slower response times and often slower lag times.

Another consideration when buying an LCD for gaming is lag time. Most TVs with extra processing (such as 120 Hz) have bad lag times and from my reading the best current LCDs for lag time are the LG LH30 and a 32" and 37" Panasonic, both with IPS panels and avoid the S-PVA panels.

An article discussing lag times.
