Default Team Fortress 2 - Demo / Soldier update

Anyone else having almost too much fun with it?

While the Soldier got the best of the updates (Direct Hit is very powerful in the hands of a good player), I think the Demo update of the shield and sword is CRAZY fun! I don't even have the sword yet but the shield and bottle I found were a lot of fun.

When was this update? I played a couple days ago and noticed the demo vs soldier page but didn't notice anything different.

Right on, been waiting on a soldier/demo update for a while. Good idea to do both at the same time. I need to find the details on this.

**edit**

Holy crap! Those updates sound awesome! I have to give this a rip tonight. That direct hit sounds like it will fit my game quite nicely. I have to force myself to remember to shoot at feet for splash damage, having to go back to direct hit will be easy.

I hate that the update happens when I am basically living at work covering for people.

Any word on when the next 'meet the' video comes out?

Really good update. Is there any doubt of Team Fortress being one of the best PC games of all time? Valve really is a developer unto its own.

So far a "meh" for me. Servers are full of demos and soldiers right now, so it's a spam fest as well as screwing the game up having everyone play two classes.

As far as the new items go the only one I don't like is that rushing demo one. It feels like they ran out of ideas right before they added it. I don't mind a few weapons that are cosmetic as much as useful, but some of these new ones really mess with the gameplay. It's starting to feel like a MMORPG with boots that are -50% damage and a backback where you can store and craft items, etc.

For the servers full of demo/soldiers, yeah that's to be expected, same thing happened with sniper/spy. At least it's better with 2 class updates at a time, rather than just one.

Join a server with class limits, the ones I play on have limits of 4 for solly and demo.

RW99, adapt!

I always avoid the flavour-of-the-month class update frenzies when they happen, and find a class that perfectly counters/nullifies that class.

Spy has never been more fun without pyros

Yea, except I don't have the weapons. And I'm not very good, so doing achievements takes time.

And the new crafting ability should help, except I have been deleting all my duplicate items. Dammit.

Yeah I've been deleting them too, time to idle I guess.

I have everything except the sword (and the new sucky sticky launcher, but who cares about that, it apparently sucks badly), and I only got 1 through achievements, the rest by random drop.

Yeah, I know how to adapt. It just gets fustrating when your team isn't working together, just playing the two classes. It's not much of a team game at that point. Maybe I should just not play for a couple of weeks till it dies down. There's a free weekend right now too if I'm not mistaken.

It's true, I find it frustrating too (especially the sniper update...ugh), but its a good excuse to hone your skills in other classes, or just go total pub-star and rush like crazy. Not to mention, lots of rockets and stickies = lots of junk to push out of the way/deflect with the airblast. I've never got more than 2 deflected rocket kills in a round till this update

The shield is almost overpowered, I find that with the charge and the damage reduction my survivability goes way up, if I use the charge to get in and get out rather than an offensive weapon.

Mind you people are starting to figure out to use a hitscan weapon against the shield wearing demo now.

Soldier boots are useless to me, I can't rocket jump reliably anyway and losing the shotgun hurts too much.

Pickaxe rules, again helps with survivability, if nothing else it lets me get out of the battlefield and to a healthpack, and sometimes it's fun to play scout and dart behind enemy lines and pickaxe a few backs.

I still haven't got the sword though

EDIT: Oh, and the Direct Hit needs to be patched, too powerful I think.

I don't get how the boots work. Do you nee to find and equip them? I don't think boots can unlock via the achievements

Good question, yeah I guess you'd either have to find them. Or maybe craft them I guess.

Don't bother, they're not worth it.

So I got the demoman milestones, but there is a glitch where you don't receive the weapons when you reach the milestones. Sucks.

Then I got the first two soldier milestones, same thing.

I'm fine with getting the new weapons eventually, but I would like to play around before they alter the weapons. If the shield is as good as people are saying, I'd like to have some fun with it before the nerf it down. Same with the Direct Hit.

On the plus side, I did receive the Equalizer and Eyelander in random drops, so at least the drop rate on the new weapons seems pretty good.

I hate the Eyelander, because I don't have one, which means a demo with one kills me every time we get into close combat.

Soldiers have a glitch where kills with the pickaxe don't count toward achievements

Frack, I've been jumping through hoops trying to do that one and going crazy because it doesn't work.
