Default Child Tax Allowance and other stuff?

So you have probably noticed that I am a new dad...yipeeeeee

Now I am wondering what exactly I am supposed to do. The baby was born in Newfoundland but we live in Nunavut.

Does anyone know what I should be applying for to get some kind of child tax benefit?

Thanks for the help!

I gotta put in another picture of my little buddy!

You fill out a form on you income tax return. The money should start rolling in for you in June or July.

Fill this bad boy out ASAP to start getting your $100/month Then when you file your 2009 return based on income you can start getting your Child tax benefit

First of all, congrats MJK...gorgeous little man you've got there!

Not really 100% sure how it works where you live, but here in AB when my kids were born they gave us the child tax and universal child care benefit forms for us to fill out while still at the hospital. And as far as I know, if you've filed your previous years tax return, you don't have to wait until the next tax season to start claiming your child tax benefit. Once the government processes your form, they'll start paying you right away, even if we're in the middle of a tax season. It can take a little while, but eventually you'll get the money, including back pay to the first month after the baby was born.

One more quick question. Like I said, the baby was born in Newfoundland but our primary residence is in Nunavut.

The Newfoundland government has a program that pays $1000 right away to a family who just had a child. Now I don't live here but I do own a house here. IF I apply for this $1000 can it bite me in the ass come tax season? I need to make sure that when I file my taxes I don't get any grief over being a resident of Nunavut.
