Default Enmax EasyMax

So I'm a new home owner and have little knowledge of what heating/water/recycling gas costs are.

I have everthing on one bill (Easymax). The first month everything costed me likle $150 bucks. I thought it was a little less than what I originally figured it would be but was quite happy with it.

This month I get a bill for the Nov. 4 - Dec. 4 period, and total charges are $303. Now I highly doubt Enmax is ripping me off, but i;m wondering if this is reasonable for a bill (IE. am I doing somethign wrong)? What are your guys' average bill for the month? I live in a 2000 squart foot house in the NW, with a finished basement, and just want to see if I'm in line with other people or if i've just an electricity/natural gas/water wasting machine.

Any help would be appreciated!

I live in my parents' basement so my Enmax bill is $0. In fact, I actually get paid since I still get my allowance provided I'm not late on my 10pm curfews (midnight on weekends).

$300 for gas/elec seems like a good price for a 2000 sq.ft. home.

Are you signed on with the fixed electricity and floating gas EasyMax plan?

The Easymax bill I paid this week was $400. My house is 2000 sq ft, unfinished basement built in 2006. My hot tub adds to my electricity usage and I likely have a higher than average number of electronic devices. My Enmax bills hit a high point last January at $610...

The big thing to look at is the date range that your bill is for. It's possible the first bill was for fewer days than the more recent bill.

My recent Enmax bill was ~$370- so yours isn't too far out of line.

This time of year my bill always goes up by $150 to $200. It will be that way for the next three months and then back down again.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated.

As for AlbertGQ, you are everything that is wrong with Calgarypuck these days. Why try and derail a thread with useless BS? If you have nothing productive to add to a thread, than stay the hell out of it.

$300 for both Gas and Energy?

Your total cost seems about "right".

I'm in an older 2000 sq ft house and Energy is running me $160, and my gas is at about the same. Mind you I'm also not in Calgary so I bend over in user fees with the companies I'm stuck with.

Easymax is having both electricity and gas billed to you by Enmax. The main reason to do it is for the convenience of having one bill. Enmax then gives you $100/yr off your utilities for the streamlined administration.

Once signed up for easymax, you can then choose to get a fixed rate on your utilities (I'm at 8 cents/kilowatt for fixed rate Elec.) or be on floating rate ($3.88 /GJ Nov1-3 & $4.19/GJ Oct 3-31 floating for Gas).

I was signed up for a while at $8.95 GJ, but noticed gas wasn't going up, so I was able to drop out of the 5 year fixed-price contract with them, and am now paying about half of that, just in time for winter.

Personally, I like the stability of the fixed electricity, but gas usage will swing a lot through the year.

As for Albertgq, I think he was being serious.

I'm on the variable rate. It looked to be the better option at the time. I don't know if it is anymore.

For gas? Yes the fixed price is ridiculous. Our bill for easy max is in the 250-300 range in the winter. and around 200 in the summer. 1500 sq ft un developed basement

Well that makes me feel a tad better about my bill. Gas + Elec in the coldest months will be around $350-400. 1600 sq/ft townhouse. Only thing that makes me wonder is I have only 2 exterior walls (neighbours units attached to the left and right of me) so you would think my heat loss would be minimal but I'm sure my walls are stuffed with newspaper, it can get chilly in the winter and the furnace runs pretty often.

I am absolutely terrified to see my Enmax bill this month. I've been greedy and have had the house unreasonably hot.
