Default Laptop Memory Question (Center Ice Related)

Looking at a new laptop. Will not be running any big programs, all I really care about is watching Center Ice Online (Gamecenter) without the video stalling.

Is it worth it to upgrade the memory if these are my options?

2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (1 DIMM)</SPAN>
3 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (2 DIMM)</SPAN> [add $25.00]
4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (2 DIMM)</SPAN> [add $110.00]
4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (1 DIMM)</SPAN> [add $350.00]

Thank you

4 gigs is a sweet spot for any system these days. I vote for spending $110 to upgrade from whatever is stock to 4 gigs. Don't waste the money on the single DIMM upgrade - unless you go to 8 gigs right away, you are missing out on dual-channel performance gains.

Make sure your OS is 64 bit, otherwise only 3.something of the 4 gigs will be usable.

if all you plan to do is casual browsing and watching center ice 2gb will do just fine..

but for futureproofing, if you plan to do more stuff in the future..4gb is worth it (as slith mentioned only if 64 bit windows)

3 gigs is the best bang for your buck.

Yes, buy the ram yourself afterwards.

Almost always the prices you pay in the upgrade choices on an automated website for building a computer are there to milk even more money out of you.

How many memory slots does this laptop have?
