Default Toronto Humane Society president and vet arrested, dead cats in ceilings, cruelty

http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/toro...f-horrors?bn=1

The other day, the President of the Toronto Humane Society was arrested along with a head vet and a lot of other management and staffers due to tips from workers and other people.

Today they found a dead cat that was trapped in a cage and left in the ceiling to die. It's well known there are feral animals living in the ceilings, between walls, etc. many animals are left to die in cages, no medication, no care, etc.

We hears stories like this a lot. Not like this specifically but stories like senators who try to pass anti gay legislation found out to be gay, priests found out to be molesting kids, is that all just coincidence? are these people just sort of crazy to begin with and then use their surroundings for "bad" things (not saying being gay is bad), or do they specifically choose that line of work to get closer to it or what? Cause it happens a lot it seems where the people in the position of power are doing exactly opposite of what their suppost to be doing and what their company or organization or stance stands for.

Whoa. The THS? I've been there many times... That's messed up. It always seemed like a relatively clean and healthy place for the animals, though. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary... nothing like this. Except for this one picture I took, but I didn't think anything of it:

My biggest concern is that the THS is going to cause people to stop giving to the CHS and SPCA. But good on the workers for whistleblowing on their boss. The workers must have felt horrible guilt seeing what was going on due to those in charge.

The Globe and Mail did an expose well before these arrests back in May of 2009. I find it disturbing that this has been going on this long, and it's only now that the authorities have done anything. (Killing Them with Kindness)

As part of this some truly disturbing and shocking photos were taken. (you are warned) Most of the mistreatment seems to be focused around cats.

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...379941/#photos

I used to think no-kill was a good thing, but after this incident, it's easy to see how that nice thought can be perverted into something absolutely evil.

Don't worry - animal charities get plenty of donations, out of all proportion IMO.

I don't think it happens a lot, it's just so ironic and every time it does happen, it's a news story.

Do you have anything to back that up? The shelters that I have visited all seemed to be on a shoestring budget and only manage to stay open due to dedicated die-hard volunteers.

I do wills for people every day, and the animal charities are named more than any other. It is really quite alarming.

My friends wealthy uncle left a lot of money to his dog apparently.
Also, about a year ago my banker did not hesitate to call me irresponsible for not having a will. I made an appointment that day.

Somebody tell Troutman that DESS hacked into his profile and is posting as him!!!!

Is this a bad time to mention that my two Christmas donations this year are going to the FOod Bank and an Animal Rescue organization?

Troutman is having flashbacks about my will. We left a pretty solid % to a shelter that we've rescued from in the past.

Why is it alarming? People care about animals.

Personally I've adopted 4 pets (one who has since passed away). I wish I could adopt more, but I can't/won't, so I donate instead.

I'm not saying it is unworthy (I would never try to persuade a client one way or the other), but why do we care more about stray animals than other human beings? I think it is an interesting phenomenon.
