Thumbs up 100 days in Glacier National Park - Boston Big Picture

Quote:
This summer, Glacier Park Magazine editor Chris Peterson undertook a photographic project to take photos of Montana's Glacier National Park over 100 consecutive days, starting on May 1, 2009, for a traveling photo show in 2010 to commemorate Glacier's Centennial. He used a mix of film and digital cameras, including an 8 by 10 field camera, a Kodak Pocket Vest camera, circa 1909, and a Speed Graphic, among others. His idea was to use the cameras that would have been used over the course of the Park's 100 years. While Chris was kind enough to share some of his photos below, you really should check out his whole set of 100. All photos and captions are from Chris Peterson. (24 photos total)

5 years ago I travelled the "Going to the Sun Highway" through Glacier National Park in Montana. Most impressive views I've ever seen... Utterly fabulous!

They just don't make highways like that anymore!

Did that 7 years ago and agree the views were stunning.

You're going to make Dis homesick with this thread. Great post. It's been too long since I've been to Glacier.

My favorite scenic place that I've visited.

When people visit Montana, they always want to go to Yellowstone, I always do my best to convince them to make the trek to Glacier.

Well, I'll clue you in on something....it's not called Glacier simply because there are Glaciers there. That's only part of it.

Glaciers melted or present, it is still magnificent and always will be.

Sure, 150 years ago they named it Glacier National because of it's wonderful beauty, had nothing to do with it's massive glaciers though.

Why not name it "Blackfeet National" after it's first owners? Or "Grinnell National" after the man who first proposed it be a National Park?

I didn't say 'nothing do with glaciers".

Whether they are present or not, the name is still perfect and geologicaly relevant.

The entire landscape was created by glaciers. That great shot with the Bighorns crossing the meadow is a perfect example...that's a classic glacier carved U shaped valley. It's a very unique spot in the lower 48.

Oh Ok, I was just being a smart-arse because there probably won't be a glacier there in 10 or so years (maybe sooner) I didn't mean they should re-name it.

I agree it is a beautiful spot as is Waterton on the other side.

Don't stop there! Yoho-Kootenay-Jasper-Banff...mind bogglingly beautiful!

I think I just made up a word.

That number 22 would be a hell of a photo even without them bighorn sheep in there. Wow.
