Default Manitoba Moose fly charter to all games

This is a great idea for an AHL team.

Using charters means better overall performance because the team is less tired, but it also means more practice days which is huge for a team that's a fair distance away from most of the other teams.

I wonder if it's been considered by Abbotsford?

I would imagine so...I can't see them taking a 25 hour bus ride to play the Moose, the next closest team to them

It also means higher cost. A rich team like the Moose can afford it. For smaller struggling AHL teams, it would be even more cost to absorb.

I don't know if there are any studies or stats to backup the fact that teams might have more success if they have faster, more comfortable commutes.

For many AHL teams out east, bus travel is logical but I'm sure that most of them will fly when they play Western teams and the Flames most likely have to fly everywhere and then take mini bus journeys when on a road trip.

Unless they are on an extended road trip through the NE USA, it's pretty much impossible for the Flames not to fly everywhere and indeed there is a travel subsidy as part of their agreement I believe.

Look how ridiculous travel looks:

The way the Moose used to do it is they'd fly to a hub then bus around the area.

So, if they had a trip that was Wilkes-Barre, Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester they would fly to New York City then bus from there.

I remember one trip when we flew to Chicago, played the Admirals in Milwaukee, played the Wolves then bussed to Cincinnati, played the Ducks on a Saturday night before bussing seven hours overnight to Hamilton after the game and playing the Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Got blown out 6-1.

I can see this working for the Moose, although a slightly bigger plane would probably be nice, seeing as how they had to land to refuel partway on their trip. Still, seeing as how it would be very tough to go directly to numerous AHL cities from Winnipeg, it would save a bunch of time, let alone with the type of trip Mr. Hat described.

just fyi that map still has teams in qc and des moines. so not having them makes the midwest even more sparse.
