You folks have ice up thurr in Alberta? It's been sunshine and lollipops here in Toronto for awhile now. I think the air pollution formed an ultra-heated dome over the city.

This was a real perfect storm. Not sure you can blame the city - no amount of preparation could have handled what I saw tonight.

Calgary has the wonderful combination of truly inept transportation planning, a "wait for a chinook" road maintenance policy, and the worst drivers in North America. A perfect shytstorm when combined with the current weather.
Anyway, I finished cutting the grass, so I'm gonna go for a ride on my motorbike now.

I'm just pissed because EVERY single bus on 17th was stuck somewhere, so I had to attempt to walk from the C Train station downtown around center street (not sure what the name was) up to Signal Hill, which didn't work, since all I was wearing was jeans and a hoodie.
Now I'm at a friends house.

There was a sander/plow truck on Stoney Trail around 4:30 PM but I don't think the city takes care of that road.

Just a thought, but if the major routes were gridlocked what good would a sander do?

To much braking going on which causes things to glare up.Slow down people and use your gears for what they are designed for.We can't keep blaming the city, this is Calgary after all and it can get cold in a hurry.I was lucky enough to get out of there at 3:30 and I did see a couple of salt trucks rolling then.Oh yeah lets not forget about the state of our tires as well. Alot of hills in Calgary get used to it.

True .... but we have heard that countless times in the last 5 years. That excuse only goes so far in my books.
The snow was forecast for a couple of days now. I do believe that a liquid salt solution can be applied prior to snow fall; maybe that would have worked in this situation.
The bottom line is that our city's transportation managers, urban planners and mayoral staff have been below par for a long time. Somehow, they have to be held accountable.

Yeah its all good down here in tuscaloosa. I haven't touched the heat yet this year.
But an Ice storm is really nothing you can do about it.

I saw one out at around 10:30. Useless.
At my work today someone ordered pizza at 5:10, by 6:30 me and my co-worker figured he wouldn't come. At 8:07 he walks in the door "lordy, took me 3 hours to get here."
haha, good thing I didn't have to deal with that nightmare.

Maybe they should legislate mandatory winter tires in Alberta.

Was suppose to go to a friend dinner party tonight after the game.
Looked outside, still have 'all-season' tires on. Not happening.

Honest question: What's with girls crying when the roads are bad? I helped 3 different girls get their car going today, all of them were crying... It's kinda cute, but come on, icy roads shouldn't make you cry.

They were probably crying because there was a scary man right outside their window...

Ok, those do occur here. But like bears and cougars, I've learned to deal with 'em. Fck, if you can't deal with wildlife, what kind of man are you?

Not to mention the real animals there, the Australians themselves - especially the "women". Yikes!
