Default Favorite sweets at christmas

I spent 6 hours baking on Sunday. I hate baking but don't mind for Christmas. What is your favorite holiday sweet? Kind of looking for a couple more things to make. My favorite is Nanaimo Bars made with peanut butter.

Almond Roca. The only time I eat this crap is at Christmas time but I guess I eat enough to hold me over for the rest of the year. Good stuff.

That's funny. My wife has been baking some old-world type christmas cookies and baking for this year. She was considering baking some for work and I was trying to tell her that people these days only like things like Nanaimo Bars and Almond Roca.

I don't really like sweets but I have a weakness for shortbread and sugar cookies.

Can't get enough of those!! I'm also a huge fan of home made toffee, butter tarts and of course Christmas oranges.

In my late teens, early 20's, my mom started making a recipe called Toffee Tarts - it's a shortbread base made in mini-tart tins, then filled with melted Mackintosh's toffee and whipping cream mixed together. Those things are absolutely divine and I love them so much. When I moved away from Manitoba, I started making them myself - they are a bit time consuming, but so worth it. That was my first contribution to the annual Christmas Cookie exchange I do with girlfriends here in Calgary, and I think that secured my spot in the exchange for a LONG time.

Oh and here's a great easy recipe that I brought and was a hit at last year's cookie exchange:

Oreo Truffles

1 bag Oreo Cookies
1 brick cream cheese
dark chocolate for melting

Pulverize oreo cookies in food processor until crumbs - add in cream cheese and beat until well mixed. Toss into fridge to cool and stiffen. Form into 1 inch diameter balls, place back into fridge. Melt chocolate in a double boiler or microwave, then roll balls in the chocolate. Serve. So yummy. These can be frozen very easily and they are a huge hit!

A family favourite: Grasshopper Pie

Ingredients

20 oreo cookies with icing.
5 Tbsp butter, melted
3/4 cup hot milk
24 large marshmallows
1/4 cup creme de menthe liqueur - I use more
1 cup whipping cream, whipped

Preperation

1 Preheat oven to 425°F. In a food processor add Oreo cookies and chop up. Add melted butter to the cookie crumbs and pat into bottom and sides of 10 inch pie dish. Bake in oven for 5 to 10 minutes; remove from oven and cool completely. Once cooled, place in freezer to chill.

2 In saucepan, melt marshmallows in milk over medium heat. Remove from heat and cool. Add creme de menthe and mix well. Fold in whipped cream. Pour into chilled pie shell. Sprinkle extra cookie crumbs on top of pie. Freeze for 3 or 4 hours.
