Speculation is heating up again.

Target eyes HBC

It would be a good move for Canadian consumers. But it drives a lot of Canadians nuts that retailers here continue to be snapped up. Heck, even Tim Horton's is American as apple pie.

I know a few people who won't shop at Walmart, Home Depot etc and spend their cash at Canuck Tire and Rona.

I could see Target being interested in the Zeller Chain to compete with Wal-Mart but the Bay doesn't fit me thinks. Target is a pretty good store when compared to Zellers.

Isn't Zellers owned by Hudson Bay Company? Well here goes another Canadian landmark to down south. Don't really like the idea, but really don't see Target changing the Bay's really. I know for one I wouldn't like it if the Bay name disapeared.

Yes Zellers is part of the Bay I could see the Bay selling off that arm of it. But I can't see the actual Bay store being sold.

I hate corporate mergers. They depress me.

Let's hope Calgarypuck is never bought by Hockey's Future. B)

Maybe CP should snap up the Oilers and Canucks boards while morale is low over there.

Wow! I hope if the Bay is bought by Americiands the stores don't get worse. Man I hate Tim Horton's since the states bought it. The doughnuts are not made fresh anymore. They get shipped in from a factory. Now they taste like dried up cake yuck! When I was in Calgary last week I tried Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Those are the bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll never go back to Timmy's ever again.

It's just the whole principle of Canadian companies being bought out by foreign corporations......

Tim Hortons, Molson "merging" with Coors, now the Bay. The Hudson Bay Co. is a friggen Canadian institution!!! I'll admit, the store is crap now, but it's significance is ingrained in the relatively short history of our country.

I just hate the idea that rather than trying to expand Canadian ownership of companies we are slowly being swallowed up by foreign investors.

Im dissapointed another Canadian insitution might be going the way of the dodo.......but Target rocks!

Its like Zellers, but they have designers do a lot of their lines so they actually have pretty cool looking sh*t at dirt cheap prices. Its' the IKEA of the walmart world.

If there is a merger of these two companies, maybe the Bay will actually have decent prices. All of their mechandise is way over priced for what it is.
