Thumbs up National Geographic's International Photography Contest 2009

Quote:
National Geographic's International Photography Contest attracts thousands of entries from photographers of all skill levels around the world every year. While this year's entry deadline has passed, there is still time to view and vote for your favorites in the Viewer's Choice competition. National Geographic was kind enough to let me choose a few of their entries from 2009 for display here on The Big Picture. Collected below are 25 images from the three categories of People, Places and Nature. Captions were written by the individual photographers. (25 photos total)

Neeper would have won this if he had his camera last night.

Love things like this.

I kinda like december because you start getting the 'Best of...' lists. The 'best pics of the year' list is one of my favorites!

Sidebar . . . . . one of my landscapes is a finalist in Canadian Geographic Magazine's 2009 Photo Of The Year competition. . . . . . I'm laying low with my toes crossed to see if it makes the final cut for publication.

Good luck. Always enjoy your photos that you post here.

And thanks also for the little tips and tidbits I've got from you over the years.

I love boston.com pictures, it seems like they have so many amazing galleries.

I'll post it in a few weeks when I find out what's finally happened - good or bad. Call it superstitious.

For interest, past winners for various categories . . . .

So, I got an e-mail yesterday saying I was runner-up - second place - in the "Canadian Landscapes" category and I understand it will be published in the January/February, 2010 edition of Canadian Geographic. In deference to the contest - and I want to make sure I collect my new Nikon binoculars and camera bag - I'll wait until that happens before showing it here. I'll put it in the Never Ending Photo Thread.
