You'd think that the US media would have the resources for simple fact checking, you'd be wrong. Time after time they make such glaringly obvious errors, and to make it worse the general approach is to just pretend that it never happened.

The US is full of intelligent people who know better, unfortunately the US media is apparently made up of countless crews of raging idiots.

No, I refuse to believe this is real. I cannot in all good conscience allow myself to think that humanity could possibly be this ignorant.

I think generalizing the US media is fair. He did say that there are intelligent people in the US.

In this particular case, he was bang on. Very rarely can there ever be a defense made in favour of national US media.

That is such a hilarious fail. It's so bad when they show the picture of Terry Fox and it has Terry Fox Marathon on his T-Shirt.

Did somebody at NBC not wonder why Marty McFly had a prosthetic limb?

It seems pretty obvious it was a slip of the tongue. They were speculating on who would light the torch, and both Betty Fox and Michael J. Fox were speculated about.

She misspoke and said Michael instead of Terry, and they showed Terry's picture. Then, presumably they were supposed to mention Michael J and had the image ready for that (as he was mentioned later in the segment) and clicked it over a little too soon. That happens all the time in tv news.

It is heartbreaking to hear that he finally lost his battle with cancer. I always thought he was great on the X-Files and the Footloose trilogy...but he was at his best as Alex P. Keaton on All in the Family. Good night funny-man

i think some intern was in charge gathering information. looked to me that someone realized the mistake and pulled the image (went back to live feed).

should have gone a step further, and show a picture of Jamie Foxx

What was with that corny marshmallow roasting schtick they had going?

On the NBC news show right after the opening ceremonies, they went to a reporter live in Vancouver and the reporter was talking about the lighting of the cauldron, and referred to Catriona Le May Doan as Catriona Le May "Dunn." Pretty easy mistake to make I suppose, but it was just funny to hear.

If Fox couldn't finish the Marthon of Hope, he should have just taken the DeLorean.

I bet you Megan Fox could raise a lot of money for cancer.

No. The picture is what makes it clear it's not a slip of the tongue. It was cued up and ready to go, right on the heels of the image of Terry Fox.

What possible segue could move them from Terry Fox to Michael J. Fox within the same segment?

"And speaking of Canadians with debilitating illnesses and the last name Fox, here's an unrelated story...."

That is indeed a legendary fail.
