Good secondhand (pawn) shops for intruments?
Hey I am coming up to Calgary this weekend, and am going to have a day or so to kill, so I was wondering where the best places to find some secondhand musical instruments are.
I am interested in finding a drum machine.
Thanks
PS I will be in the NW, but have no issue with touring the city.

I remember working in a guitar store years ago and I would see used guitars at pawn shops selling 5-10 percent more then the new ones at my store. I would try a
music store first to see if they carry any used drum machines. Try Mother's Music 403-245-0459.

A buddy of mine from Junior High's dad owned a place called Harmony Lane. I don't know if it's still around, but they had lots of stuff. Plus being that it's(was?) in Forrest Lawn, you'd feel right at home.

Mothers music is a great place for drums, but not on the cheap.

Almost sure Long and McQuade has second hand instruments.
In the south, near Chinook.

Good to know, I have to go there too to get a Yorkville PA speaker looked at. Maybe I head there first.

You used to be able to find deals on gear at Pawn Shops, before the internet when they didn't know what they had.
These days it's almost a waste of time to walk in there, don't know how they move anything with those prices.

Well the one I want is the Alesis SR-16, but I dont want to pay full price for it.
They are built like tanks and have been manufacured since 1991. I am hoping to find a cheap older used one.

Yeah its tough to find decent deals in ebay anymore, unless its smaller stuff. Or stuff you dont really see around locally. But there is usually something in Kijiji that beats ebays prices.

I did find a smoking deal on a Fender Strat in a pawn shop in Calgary about a year ago.
1996 MIM Fender, Agave Blue, not so much a mark or scuff on it, Maple fretboard. Couple Broken Strings, got it for $200 in a case.
Just a gorgeous guitar. I willhave to find and post a pic.
EDIT: FOund them

Usually the prices on (good) gear at pawn shops are a bit high, IMO. It's all about that diamond in the rough, though. One time I found a ~$500 analog synth at a pawn shop for under $20.
What kind of a drum machine are you looking for? Some of the crappy digital ones from the early 90s should really be free - you could probably get one for $50 max - if you don't care about the sound quality.
